Remake of "Metal Gear II"?

As a msx-fan I try to collect as much msx (-related) stuff as possible..

There are many many remakes of older games out there and of course also some really good msx remakes!
But why doesn't there exist a remake of "Metal Gear II"? I think that THAT is missing in all those retro collections
So I decided to start a new project - Metal Gear Remake II. It will be written with VC6 using SDL. What do ya msx-fellows outta here think of that idea?

Besides, will there be any copyright problems?

For one thing, Konami is still quite active in the Metal Gear series: Metal Gear Solid 3. The copyrights issue might be quite a problem. But then again, there are already quite some remakes of Konami titles done, another one would be fun for the community.

I can recall somebody was working on a Solid Snake remake, I think it was for Dreamcast, but nevertheless... Maybe you can get in contact with them and offer your help, try to make a full SDL version of it so it can be portable to other platforms. Check this newspost for info about the group and what they're working on.

About a year ago I contacted konami about something like that...
I wanted to do a remake of the Maze Of Galious.

Their answer was a definite NO !
They still hold ALL copyrights on art, music, etc. for all their games !
You CAN'T even use "Metal Gear" for any game you are making yourself !!!

If you would do a remake, then the story will have to be totally different than the original, you will need to use other artwork, graphics, ... and you'll have to name it differently !

A good example, is a zelda remake that was in progress:

I know Konami forced removal of two games from the net which were incredibly close to Knightmare and Nemesis/Gradius, which may be a very good example of what may happen to anybody doing a remake or something of any Konami title. Argon's reply only emphasize this.

Unfortunately, remakes currently in progress don't seem to care about Konami's opinion and rights regarding these issues. They may force to stop development of these projects as well.

Indeed, Konami is known to have a very strict policy about fan-games, remakes and related software/websites.

Hmmm.. I didn't know that Konami has got that strict policy about remakes, etc.
It's a pity that there can be so many problems with copyrights

But AFAIK there ARE remakes of konami games:
- MoG for example has already finished the first stage, and the project's still alive.
- Joy Division (www.mgorigin.net) don't seem to have any(?) of those problems mentioned (to my suprise). That's stated in their FAQ.

Still try it?
I mean, I just do it for fun as a Konami- and MG-Fan and don't want to earn money for that work...
And when they force me to stop...?
well then change the storyline/gfx/sound/etc

I did spoke to someone who was working on some sort of remake or something. and he was planning to expand the existing story, to make it all more clear of what happened and stuff like that. But that guy was talking in a blur, and haven't talked to him anymore unfortunately...
