It is a silly idea, but it sounds cool anyway...

There should be a little flag at the side of every nickname at the left of the messages in the forum, so this way we would know where everyone are from... If the user haven't informed where he is from in his account, they would place a "?" or a "msx logo" or anything like that... Of course they woldn't have to search for hundreds of flags... Just the main ones (of those where the MSX was popular).

And, don't you have those little penguins faces that are placed where we write stuff like ": D" and so on? So I think there should be a little MSX logo to be in place of every MSX writings we do (i mean the red msx logo with the lettlers attached to each other, you know...)

Well, I was born in USSR, the Ukrainian part of it, after that I lived in Russia, and now I live in Israel. If I place an Israel flag near my name, does it mean everybody should start talking Hebrew with me ? Or should I place a russian flag near my name ? Or maybe ukrainian one ?

Placing flags is a silly idea. You should be able to see the user's info page instead, IMHO.
If I want to tell something about myself, I'd rather do it at my info page.

Indeed, we have chosen not to waste datatraffic on that. However, in the future it will show user country (in text) and - only when you're logged in - a link to the user information - only when the user allows you to view that info.

An text information about the country would be as functional as the flag... Its a good idea too. The possibility of the user allowing or not to show his country or other personal info is interesting either...

I have thought about this info due the new "internationalization" of the site (with the translation of the site to spanish, and perhaps other languages also). So it was commented about the possiblity in the future on having specific areas in the forum to other languages for those who can't speak english... Then I've imagined that showing this information would be interesting.

But, (Cax), i agree that this is not *necessary*. It would be just an improvement. It is not something suposed to make people to talk to you in one or other language... And would be up to you to inform your country origin... anyway it is just an idea, we can live without that very well, heheheh

I actually like the idea of showing the country information in text under the user name. I also think the 'online/offline' feature is quite useless (and not really accurate). So why not replace the 'online/offline' txt with the Country someone's from.

what method do you use for checking online/offline snout?

something like setting time() every pageview for every user and later check if his timestamp has been timed out? i time out in 180 seconds on my page.. you could also use some jscript that does the work for you when people are online while timed out after 180 seconds but still reading the posts or whatever..

That's indeed the problem with Belgium. It's a land with 3 official languages : Dutch, French and German.

Another case like this ? Switzerland ! 4 official languages : German, French, Italian and "Romanche" .

Can you for example guess my first language ?

TIP : the answer is on my site !
