It 's equivalent to TMS9918A chip.

I would like to get some info about this MSX compatible VDP,
because I founded some differences with TMS9918A (or TMS9928A or TMS9929A) videoprocessor writing direcltly to port ( OUTI ot OTIR). Graphics seem to be displaced on VRAM.

As soon as you get more details, please tell me, WYZ. I am interested in TMS9918 and variants, because I do not need V9938/58/90 supersets. By the way, some tricks are not compatible between different chips, as you already know.

Do you have datasheet on it?

I'm searching for TMS9118a data manual / register description too. This is the next generation after TMS9918a family and it is used on Coleco Vision and some MSX1.

"The 9118/9128/9129 VDP's are the succesors of the 9918A/9928A/9929A VDP's.
These new chips have improved memory addressing circutry which allows the
interface of either 8 TMS4116 (2k) or 2 TMS4416 (8K) dynamic RAMs."

- 9118 looses GROMCLK pin.

It's on MSX Pro web site:

Note the difference: WYZ is asking for 9118, not for 9918.

9918 and 9118 have slightly different colors:

Funny how that last article claims the V9938 was used in Sega Mastersystem and the V9958 in the Genesis/Megadrive
Ofcourse neither is not true.

The VDP Sega used in the Mastersystem is a pattern-mode evolution of the TMS9918, while the Yamaha V9938 is a bitmap-mode evolution.

The VDP in the Genesis/Megadrive is an evolution of the Mastersystem VDP, with no relation to the V9958 whatsoever.

I've never heard about the YM2701 and YM2703 part numbers, are these actually correct?

No idea, google search for YM2703 brings nothing but this article...

The V9938 and V9958 chips are in the $30-40 range, with the V9958 about $3 more
than the V9938. However, dealers only know them by the Yamaha part numbers
{YM2701 and YM2703.

oh!!!!, is possible to buy now?

Sure, there's still some stock with the odd hardware reseller. Just do a search online to see who says they carry it. One of them is bound to actually have them... And then there was an offer of 4 or 5 V9958's on this forum not one week ago. They even had a couple of V9990's to offer.

Lol, it was 9918, 9938 and 9990. Ikeda doesn't have 9958
