I share arjan's opinion, although sellings of every software product nowadays from our side doesnot finance any kind of hardware. In the past say around 1994-1995 maybe.
The prices for a subscription on our diskmagazine(s) were high. And the price of PAIII was even higher than dass namely 69 guilders. More sxpensive was e.g. Aackodesk and scribe irc. People in general believe that I am against freeware what isnot the case.
But there had to be a balance between freeware and software against fair prices.
I was at one moment a little pissed off since , mainly in spain people declared many titles freeware without letting us know that they would like to make it freeware.
We made costs for manual etc. So since I discovered that Blue Warrior,Sonyc and Kpi were made freeware almost at the same time. We got only a warning from Manuel Pazos ,who announced it directly to us.
During the years I lowered the price of many software products and we offer also some freeware on our website.
In correspondence with MRC we declared the PD magazines , freeware so that they could be suitable for downloading.

And as regards the hamburgers for Team Bomba, two members would have a hardtime eating hardware

Well, if I remember correctly, the spanish game went freeware because the authors were upset with the prices that you were charging for their software. Price here in Spain was about a half, and so they decided to make it freely downloadable. That was all.

Ah, so they decided to just ditch their agreement without prior notice or talking about it first. Very typical.

Furthermore, I think none of the prices of Sunrise are expensive... Basically all are somewhere between 10 and 15 euro's (and used to be too), that's pretty much nothing. Taking into account additional shipping costs, having to keep a stock, etc... Furthermore they probably have a standard pricing scheme for products, so that if you buy game X from them game Y will cost you a comparative amount of money. And life in the Netherlands is probably more expensive than in Spain anyway.

So what if Sunrise charges a few euro's more. Prices on these levels are still cheap, and are easily 'doubled' (now if it were 50 euro's instead of 25 or so, that'd be a 25-euro differerence, would be a different matter...).

Actually I think that 25euro is quite fair for a complete RPG (or any game of that scale) when it includes a nice box and manual, and has a great overal quality ..
The old Japanese prices (early 90's) were a bit over-the-top.. but I guess 25 is a suitable price .. don't you agree?

Sure.

Compare it to today's game prices... Hell, if it's a good RPG I'd even pay 50. Well ok that might be a bit over the top, not really the 'MSX prices' we are used to now , and it still IS an old computer, but if it's really a must-have game... I have several PS2 games which cost me even more, so really why shouldn't I be willing to pay such amounts for an MSX game as well...

Just because its pixels are larger? Doesn't define the quality of a game imho. ~Grauw

I think first of all you are bad informed

Since the difference in price by KPI ball was exactly one euro ,and we use a different box
The big box, for everybody known but apperently not for you
and the price was negotiated via Hnostar and I paid via HNostar and Matra didnot contact us ever despite their sayings.
Manuel Bilderbeek has explained this for us to MATRA -for which we thank him
If you refer to Blue Warrior we offered also the deluxe version but was and has never been a problem to Moiatech and Moaitech received in a proper way its money.
So, therefore not polite to act this way.

It is a pity that this whole discussion is now about prices rather than about freedom.

The [GNU] GPL gives people not only the right to use and redistribute, but also to study and modify programs. GPL'ed programs are thus free of restrictions (apart from the restrictions needed to guarantee that people will keep the right to use, redistribute, study and modify the program).
Freeware merely means "computer software that is offered free of charge for anyone to use" (Oxford advanced learners dictionary)

See also:

and

So we have at least three options for the poll:
software can be
- proprietary
- freeware
- GPL'ed
