Hi!

I have a Sony HBD-50 drive.Originally those drives are single sided 360K.Somewhere I read someone had that drive with a jumper on the basic-cartridge making it capable switching to 720K.
Does somebody know how this is done? Can I maybe do it myself?
I tried to format a 720K floppy back to 360K on a pc with " format a: /F:360 /1" but that was not possible.

Can I otherwise buy unformatted floppy´s and format them on my HB201-p using call format? Or is the 360K floppy an old and obsolete type?

I just want to use my drive with my 201-p.
Any help is apriciated!

Thanks in advance.

Ap.

iirc 720K (double sided) floppy's also also heard to get. So lets asume 360K is also obsolete.

But basicly, a 720K flop can be formated on 360K. Have you ever tried formating a 720K flop on an MSX by typing CALL FORMAT in MSX-BASIC for instance?

There is no jumper to change it to double sided
If you want to use the HBD-50 double sided, you have to change the eprom and the drive.

Well... I think 360kB fits a MSX1...

...but you cannot play Konami's Game Collection (most of them are 720 KB disks).

I think those require SCC+, so they are not that relevant. Plus all the games from Game Collection disks could be found as stand-alone ROMs. And in case if the person does have SCC+, they can extract Game Collection ROMs from floppies on PC and then use those ROMs on 360Kb floppy.

They don't require SCC+ (or officially the Snatcher Sound Cartridge). It's an optional feature which will cause most games to play music on SCC in stead of PSG. Some games even have sound effects on SCC as well.

Ah heck. Don't care about a SCC or SCC+ or something, this is the disk drive area Anyhow, it's quite nice to see my Sony MSX 1 with HBD-50 and DOS1
Though I prefer the Turbo R with ATA-IDE and DOS2

Lucky man! My MSX1 (CX5M) only have 32KB RAM, so it doesn't "chew" MSX-DOS 1.x...
Only Basic...
