Well, actually I think that Galaga is quite challenging also.

I'd go for these fine games:

1. Famicle Parodic2 (Never came past level 2)
2. Laydock 2 Last Attack
3. Salamander (hard, but one of my favourites. Great game, great music and sfx)

Aleste 2 was pretty easy as far as shooters go. Space Mambo (remember guys?) was just plain easy. Even I could finish it without much effort...

1. Salamander (only wizards can finish this one)
2. Andronogynus (never finished it)

They are easy.
The other games are not very easy.

Hype is damn hard too!

Breaker (you do shoot blocks with the ball...)
Metal Gear (you do shoot switch with a rocket)
Knightmare (you obliterate your enemies in a variety of exotic slaying techniques)

Salamander is nog the hardest, c'mon guys (yeah I'm that Salamander wizzard. Once played it 4 times to the end with just one live... that's the key. Play it in one go or loose it)
I recently played it, just to see where I'd end up, and died on Lavinia.. sniff. gotta practise again. I remember them days I came home right after school and started up Salamander again (loading from tape, salamander is the only one that can store game situation on tape!) Played it 'till my fingers bleed and could play them first levels with eyes closed. Only to conclude I had to play the whole darn game again just b'coz I didn't have Nemesis II in slot 2! (alternative ending)... sight. ah, well it made me the alltime-super-dooper-salamander-trooper in that time. (like yeeeeears ago)

well, this is the top3 I came up with:
1. Aleste2 (never finished the game, too hard, too noisy)
2. Famicle Parodic (hard game, not unplay-able.. got to level 4)
3. euh.... well. dunno Andronogynus maybe (got to level 5 IIRC)

never liked laydock. Aleste 1 and Zanac are cool, Aleste special and II are not my fave ones either. Hype was cool, but not interresting.

1. Famicle Parodic (even the second is easier )
2. Parodius (even though the game is just one big humour shooter, I never got to stage 2)
3. Salamander (another hard game, but stage 2 is a bit easier to get to)

Been playing the hacked version huh? The original does have the code, but it's disabled. And-ehrm... It's Space Manbow...

Space Manbow? Hard? If we'd vote for the easyist space shoot'em up, it would be my number one!

And Salamamder, never played level 2? Looks like shoot'em ups aren't your thing, Wolf ;-). But then again, you've got other qualities most of us don't have.
