You're not suggesting to sell them as being real ones, are you?

Uhm, that would be the whole point indeed... Note that I'm not suggesting anything! But the thought does come to mind when you see another moron pay $500,- for a MG2...

I think not...
it would just be handy to have some 'new' mgs2 carts for use on a real msx.
Of course there's the translated disk version, but not everyone has 512kb in his msx2.

Hey, buy one of those SCC-DRAM-cart-thingies... You can 'upload' whatever the heck you feel like. It is a bit of a shame though, that with these prices there soon won't be any MSX users with an original MG1/2 left...

If it's just for playing the game, doesn't it make more sense to just fire up an emulator and drop in a nicely translated version instead of playing an unreadable copy of the japanese original using an old real MSX (which probably old enough to be about to break down)?

Dude, you can just as easily play the translated version on an old real MSX! And they don't break down as easily as PC's or something you know... tsk

I sold my original MG1 once... (I started recollecting only a few years ago)

I didn't expect it to turn that rare

I have the PC versions of MGS1 & 2 now though... heh.

My own MSX does have 512KB so I can run the translated MG2 pretty well... but a friend of mine only has 256kb in his MSX2, meaning he can almost run everything except that one.

But an SCC d-ram cart? aren't those kinda rare/not cheap either?

that's pretty interesting. Though I'd be a little reluctant to slaughter an SCC cartridge for it

if they had a 2048kb version you could load the zemmix 126 in 1 on it

Ah gotcha, I guess I should've read the original post a bit more carefully ;-)
I'm actually surprised that there is still such an active MSX scene, willing to buy games to play on the real thing! Pretty cool

Hmmm, not on *my* MSX (even it wasn't gathering dust somewhere) :-/

Heh, you're probably right as there's less stuff in there to break down :-)
But when it does (and sooner or later it will), you can only buy another old one that might well be about to break down too. Life sucks huh? ;-)

erikd: to be honest, I don't think those original MG2's are actually played. They're for collectability, and as they're very rare one is supposed to be careful with them (so better play the translated disk version ;p). If I were to have MG2, I wouldn't touch it with a finger! Of course, for Quarth and Salamander it is a different manner . Much easier to play them quickly from cart instead of having to find a disk among many and wait for it to load. And cooler to have them original .

I usually buy games to play them, if I would obtain a original Solid Snake, I would surely play it, no matter the rarity. But I guess I won't buy a copy since I adapted an spare F1 Spirit cart with an eprom containing the English Solid Snake, maybe I should put that one on ebay
About 'sealed' software, I bought a sealed copy of Ikari Warriors once, when I opened it to play the game, the game was broken Fortunately I bought a working cartridge at Bussum this year...

well, my most butchered carts are nemesis 2 (it doesn't even have the original sticker anymore) and f1spirit;
nemesis 2 has a switch, f1 spirit has switch and a volume controller (workaround for the nms8250 sound problem, so I really need that one).
I could send the nemesis 2 to aforementioned megaflashrom producer, but I'd like to keep the switch.....aside from that, even with the butchering I now have carts of nemesis1,2,3, salamander and parodius and it it's nice to have all of those... nemesis2 is definately in the worst condition of the lot though, to the point where it wouldn't hurt trying to get another (it's technically still good but that's all there is to it).
Now, if I would order a megaflashrom without SCC, would SCC games still function with an SCC inserted in the other cartridge slot?

Sound problem in 8250/55/80 series: you just have to replace 2 resistors. Repair-Bas knows more on this topic

I know; he made the F1 Spirit modification
..I know modifying stuff in the 8250 should be fairly easy, but my skills to fix something are rather....destructive. ....so I tend to not do those modifications myself unless I don't mind if the hardware in question gets killed.
I really need to improve on that though
