Seriously though, euhm... some of the conflicts start because of miscommunication. A large, international audience visits the MRC. More than 30.000 unique visitors every month, as a matter of fact. (Yes, TFH, real unique visitors! ). Not every visitor of the MRC has a degree in English. So, please do take that into account when someone doesn't understand you at first.

And, when in conflict: Instead of posting your own reaction, taking a fight to the next level, you can let us know you think something is going too far (or too off-topic), allowing the MRC moderators to react before things are getting out of hand. You can either contact us or submit a moderator alert. I think that the key issue to getting the MRC more peaceful is already stated in our forum policies: be nice to other people, respect the fact that people have different opinions (if that weren't the case there would be little to discuss anyway) and if you feel insulted don't start swinging with axes straight away.

We started the MRC because we feel that it is extremely important that there's a place where MSX users around the world can meet, find out what they are doing, exchange ideas and opinions and start new initiatives. Although we are very happy that the MRC has gotten as big as it is today we have encountered several situations that worry us a lot. The MRC team is doing the best they can, trying to give the MSX Community the website they deserve: a place where every MSX user feels at home. But we cannot monitor the website 24/7 and I personally believe stricter moderation on the MRC would only move the problems to different media (like the MSX Mailinglist and Usenet, on which no moderation is possible at all), instead of solving them. I think the members of the MRC should be aware of the fact they can either encourace of discourage other visitors to start and keep using the interactive parts of our website, which are imho essential to keep the MSX community alive.

Like I said, more than 30.000 unique visitors have a look at the MRC every month. Lets not give them the impression that the MSX Community anno 2004 is mainly about personal conflicts, lets show them what MSX really is about. Perhaps some of them will start joining the discussions on our forums as well, then.

The MSX Community has always had a large share of personal conflicts! Not that I am saying it should be that way now but some people just never grow up. It was childish then (but I was a kid so I liked it) and it's still childish now.

I really don't have the impression that MRC is overflowing with rants and flamewars either.
