I have received an original MSX diskette, but on my PC it won't read.
Is there a way to read the disk on PC?
I have tried to use diskmgr, exe, but then I receive read errors, this could mean 2 things (i beleive)
- it is a corrupt disk
- or it can't be read on a PC

Who can give me an answer?

Check if it is a HD disk. If it has a hole on the right bottom hand of the disk, tape it with non transparant tape. If it does not have such a hole, the disk is probably corrupt...

MSX don't use HD flops, cuz the system was made in the time where SD (360k) and DD (720k) flops were used. They only got one cut out at the bottem of the disk (the one with the switch to protect/unprotect)

If it's a HD you also may want to copy contects to your HD first, then use dskmgr to CREATE a DD.dsk file (720k) flop and put them files on

It is a 720Kb disk (DD), but in the explorer it says after some time of trying to read the disk: disk can't be read, shall I format it.
So on my PC it can't be read.

Do guys/girls know if a MSX-disk could be read in the explorer on a PC, I mean can a PC show the contents of the disk?

The contents of the disks could very well be sector-based. Which means you have to create a disk image (.dsk file) out of it. Google on 'DCOPY' should do the trick!

DCOPY is a hell if you don't know the settings. Here you have the command line:

To READ a disk:
dcopy.exe a: <name>.DSK /r:2 /h:2 /s:9 /t:80
To WRITE a disk:
dcopy.exe <name>.DSK a: /r:2 /h:2 /s:9 /t:80

<name> can be exchanged with any voluntary maximum 8-characters-long file name.

I always use this bat file:

D.BAT
DCOPY %1 %2 /r:2 /h:2 /s:9 /t:80
.

Then I call
D A: BLAAT.DSK
or
D BLAAT.DSK A:

Quite handy

But euhm.. why do you use all those settings when DCOPY works perfectly well without them, D-Tail?

Well, you implicitly gave the answer to that yourself:

I've had several disks/images which didn't work doing so. Moreover, I believe it will override any previous disk settings (track number, sectors/track, heads, etc) if you specify all these options.

Is there an emulator who will read original disks directly? (besides the old MSX emulator from MCCM)

fMSX-DOS!

Dunno where to find it tho... Maybe some googling will find the answer to that. I don't know paraMSX, but fMSX is quite accurate, even though it's quite an old emulator.
