wav2mtn?

Hi, I have downloaded wav2mtn from the msd site. But the program won't work. For example:

a>wav2mtn voorbeeld.wav
Wav to MTN converter 0.82 NWO 1997, 1998

a>

I use msxdos1.xx, OPL4 in slot1 and 1 MB memory mapper in slot2 on a 8245.

I use Cooledit Pro 2.0 on my PC to make samples and save it as a wave file. I convert the samples first to a mono sample, 16 bit, sample rate: 16000 Hz. Then I save it to a disk. The file is not larger then 128Kb. I have try many types like Windows PCM (*.wav), Microsoft ADPCM etc. It won't work.

When I save a sample as Windows PCM (*.wav) in cooledit, not larger then 64Kb and load it with my MSX as a sample in MBwave 1.16, the sample is good (16-bit signed (LH).

What I do wrong?

I'm not 100% sure about this, but if the file isn't created after that command, I have a feeling wav2mtn requires DOS2 then. Though it would've been nice to print that in DOS1.

The programm only works with dos2. I forgot to build in a check or mention it in the txt file. Sorry about that.

Hmm, when I use Dos2 I get a error: ** Wrong DOS version

msx-dos kernel version 2.20
msxdos2.sys version 2.32
command2.com version 2.31

I get the same with command2.com version2.32

Other question for msd: when is the next release of wav2mtn? I saw in the textfile you talk about to support stereo samples in the next release. That would be nice.

type in dos2 : set expert on

Next release, that's a good question. Haven't done anything with it since 1998. Btw the loop support only works with some wav files. The loop information is not a standard feature of wav. But as far as I know Cooledit saves it in such a way that is works with wav2mtn

btw I don't think 16000 Hz is a good sample freq to use. mbwave only supports 22050 and 8363Hz (or a multiple of it)

Yes, it works now

Well, I shall see if it give some problems. It would be nice if you gonna release a next version, because I use frequently big samples. I don't know if it take so much time to make a better version. But maybe, if you have some time

Simply save the left and right channel separately in cooledit if you want to use stereo samples at this moment

Maybe non-relevant info.. but I think the fastest way to get samples to mbwave is to save them raw and use ordinary disks to transport them to mbwave. This way you don't have to leave mbwave to start wav2mtn. The only thing you need to do in that tone editor is set the loop-adres, and the the playfreq (which msd should set to 22050 be default ahumfeaturerequest) .. well you can get those values by watching the pc-screen where you still have that sample.

using wav2mtn enables usage of samples bigger then 64KB. He wants to use bigger samples..

btw.. 22khz/8bit for a sample is fair enough ^^;

euh, 16 bit samples can be 128kB right? So it's a minor bug (or feature) in MBWave if it can't load raws of that size.

Arjan correct.
At first remco tought the loop end address where just byte offsets.. but they are sample offsets. He never changed it and ofcourse his mem manager can't handle >64KB
