Exactly, amusing as the flamewars sometimes are, generally they are very annoying. If there is no moderation they will probably be endless. There are (hopefully were) days the only activity on the MRC were flames, that's a very bad thing and I am glad for the moderation that halts the flaming.
|
The problem with the flames is complicated because MRC is a so populair forum, with so many visitors ... and not all visitors have a good/very good/excellent MSX experience ... Newbies for example look for infos and positive attitude, so especially for them flames are annoying and without meaning.
But generally, if you come to a battle on MRC, the source is often in misunderstandings and/or exaggerate reactions. To solve the problem between the concerned people, MRC is indeed not the good solution, it's better to use mailing lists like comp.sys.msx or to use private e-mails.
Moderation is not an easy work on a so great forum as MRC ... and in some cases, you can get the feeling that different opinions from the MRC line are not really accepted. MRC is excellent for the news, but more tolerance in the discussions is really necessary. |

Pitpan: a soul-searching question: Should MRC delete your account now and pretend you've never been here? Personally, I don't get your point at all. Now I'm not the one to point out the facts about which forum is better (member/post-wise) and such, cos those have been detailed in the past already. I think you contributed a lot to the MSX Revival with your MSXdev'0x compos. What makes you do such a step? MRC isn't AT ALL about on-the-fly moderation, or, like you call it, 'censorship'. If you feel personally insulted, you can always contact MRC by e-mail to sort things out. Maybe that might be an idea?

If i except his MSXdev, honestly, i never saw pitpan posting any positive or constructive reaction... He's prolly one of the worst guys around here in term of communication imo (well not realy just imo).
Still i am not sure it would be wise to join this wannabe msxposse forum filled with average coders, composers and various contributors who'd rather rant about the MSX scene than facing the reality of their respective poor skills which will never be able to catch any satisfying audience... O_o

Humm, j-war, that's a bit arrogant... Not that I want to speak in favour of msxposse, but I don't think MSX-ers are only measured by their coding/composing/grafix0rz skillz .
There are of course many ways of contributing or enjoying MSX.

Personally, I'm very happy pitpan is gone... Not because I don't like pitpan or anything, but merely because he felt out of place here. Different people have different taste in life, this is no different for online communities. I am very glad pitpan has found a place he feels 'at home' and I hope he can contribute to MSX there for a very long time to come.
I would like to point out to all those who feel unhappy about MRC, and especially those that insist on voicing this in a negative way on our forums, that there are many communities out there which may better suit you. Some people seem to *hate* MRC and continue to manifest this on our forums. If you do not like MRC, there is plenty of other MSX communities out there where you can do the things you cannot do here, like flaming other people or posting wares... This way things will be better for everyone, not only for the person who is annoyed by the way we run this site, but also for the other people who have to read negativity on these forums every day.
I wish you the best pitpan, and I hope you continue your MSX endeavours for a long time to come. Ofcourse we will follow your MSXdev activities as always and continue to inform our readers about all the wonderful MSX programs you have managed to (help) create...

MRC is trying to do its best to serve the MSX community and its users. Of course, things can always get better, that's why we're open to suggestions and critisicm. It's painful for us, but we have to accept though we can not please everyone, there are users which clearly don't like the way MRC is doing its job. Considering the fact the discussions about MRC keep coming back, I'm actually happy there is something like www.msxposse.com For me, it's now clear we simply can't satisfy everyone and then it's better that there are alternatives for MSX users, so they can enjoy MSX the way they want to. I sincerely hope this will also mean the discussions on MRC about MRC will calm down a bit and we can all continue enjoying MSX on a more peaceful level. |

One can wonder if the notion of 'peace' is known to them after reading the posts done there. |

J-War: tastes nasty. In any case, I know that's not the way you think, but I'm just pointing out that it sounded a bit arrogant . Which may not have been exactly the right word. |
