I have two identical computers: Sony MSX2 HB-F1XD. Both work fine, but one of them has a strange boot MSX logo. MSX letters are white on red background, and the border is yellowish-brownish.
I recently saw similar defect here: cgi.ebay.nl/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=21084&item=5113879063
What could be the reason of this problem? I suspect dead capacitors, but need help anyway. |

Go to BASIC and type:
SET TITLE "",1
If problem reappears later, change RTC battery.

I think they just thought it was a cool gimmick.

it would fill up the specs list, nothing more. it's completely useless.
(however back in the days when every computer shop did sell MSX2 computers it was fun to just: set tittle password / color 0,0,0 / width 1 / set screen
just to fuck around.. . .dunno, we we're kids (uhm, 16 years or so?? )so excuse our childish behaviour.

So, in short, if I'll remove batteries for a while, the red/yellow crap will be gone?

You mean there is NVRAM outside the battery-backed RTC clock in MSX2?

No, it's one and the same.

Hmmm... Knowledge is power... Ok, I did first:
SET TITLE "",1
and this corrected the problem
But then I felt lucky, so I typed in:
SET TITLE "SONY HB-F1XD",2
now MSX doesn't go beyond the boot logo
I kept the batteries outside for a while (20 minutes), but this didn't help.
Is there a magic key combination to clear all this NVRAM mess?
Thanks |

You're supposed to press space after the screen boots... Next you'll tell me you used SET PASSWORD and forgot what it was!
You'd think and MSX Addict would know all this stuff! Oh, by the way, a TITLE and/or PASSWORD can only be 6 characters long iirc. That, and it replaces your PROMPT. This stuff is all in your BASIC handbook though... |
