However, enemies are not so cool when they walk randomly...
Now I need to fix enemy AI, include the heart power-up and then type the sentences at the end of the stages. |

About a playable version...
The game is playable and flows like heaven. Collision detection is very good. It's just like the original Skooter with a higher framerate and more polished graphics. It's even playable, except for the last two stages (that need correct enemy implementation to be finished). Some minor programming is required too. At the current stage, you can't suicide. Only return to the beginning of the game.
I started implementing enemies yesterday. Their AI is still very dumb and buggy. I still did not figure how they behave. Can anyone help me? Only after that I can properly implement them and finish the game.
Graphics were created using CorelDraw and Photoshop, and are slightly degraded, since I used 256 colors in the web images, and the game runs up to 32 bits. Everything was drawn over the original graphics.

Great graphic adaptation skills in these shots!. Sharp and well defined but mantaining the original feeling. Congrats for the great work, can't wait to play it. Just a question, it will run under Windows?. And again, congratulations |

I like it very very much! Great stuff. Are you planning to include new levels or even a level editor?

Yes, it will run (only) under Windows. DirectX 7.0 or better, needs a soundcard (or it will happily crash), and I believe it will work in very, very, very, very low specs machines. I believe it could work in a tolerable way even in a P233 Mhz with a decent videocard.
About a level editor, I do not know. I am very tempted to include a level editor. Actually I already created one. However, it's buggy and ugly. It would cost more time to implement an user-friendly editor. Besides that, I must end not only this Skooter remake, but also another game remake, Yami no Ryu Ou - Hades no Monshou (It's a Knightmare clone made by Casio). Check these:

But I do admit it'd be great to see new Skooter levels floating around the web. |

so it won't run on 3.5 Mhz? the original did....
(neh, just joking)
so euh, where did ya code this piece in? (c++, delphi/pascal or anything?)
and the music? is it like the org. i liked it very much iirc |

Yes, the original did run in 3.5 Mhz. But it was done in Assembly. Mine is in BASIC, he, he, he!
It is being done in BlitzBasic (www.blitzbasic.com). About the music... Well, it was ripped from an emulator as MIDI, then I asked a friend of mine to change all samples to piano and then I converted it to MP3. It's not sounding perfect, but it's not bad either. Can anyone in here reprogram it? |

I could not find him on the web. Too bad. I´d really like to talk to one of those MSX guys... The original Skooter seems to be a masterpiece of programming considering the difficulties I am having to remake it, specially talking about collision detection. |

Good news! I contacted the author. Now he's the chief programmer of Mercenaries from Lucasarts. And seemed a little bit surprised about receiving an e-mail about a game made 17 years ago. He did not object about remaking Skooter. The game copyright belongs to Aackosoft, that went out of business many years ago. This weekend I'll try to finish it, and later I will implement a game editor.

So what happened to the Aackosoft copyrights? Do they still exist, are their games Public Domain now? If not, could they be declared freeware?
Man, you could've asked all those things!
