First beta...
All blocks and enemies collisions are done. Graphics are 99% ready (still lacking different floor shapes for each stage). The game is playable, but enemies do not kill you, and you can't suicide. The reason for this is simple, I still did not finish Skooter's death routine. If you lock a stage, you must quit the game and restart it all over, sorry.
It seems to be very incomplete, but actually it's 90% ready, since most of the lacking routines are the easier part to implement.
Use arrows and space to play, ESC to quit and F10 to toggle framerate display on/off. If you get less than 20 fps or more than 100 fps, please contact me!
By the way, in the "sounds" folder of the game, there are two MIDIs with the game songs. If you know how to edit them, be my guest and send me them to include in the final version!

It's looking and playing great so far. I'm just wondering, is anybody going to take on the music as well? I mean, no remake would be complete without a remake of the soundtrack as well. |

I guess they had to come up with a remakes newstopic sooner or later since these type of software become more and more common.

question remains whether music-remakes deserve a dedicated icon as well ^_^

About the music...
The original soundtrack was much probably meant to sound like a piano. So I logged the soundtrack as a MIDI and then asked a friend to change all samples to piano. After that I converted the MIDI to MP3. Stupid, I know, but I do not know anything about music.
Anyway, it sounds just like the original, don't you think so?

Well, almost. Though it doesn't take a keen ear to detect that plenty of notes are missing from the "ripped" version. I think something went wrong in the logging-to-MIDI process. |

Yes... You're right... fMSX logged it into a MIDI. But it not always does it right. Come on, guys, both MIDIs are in the "sounds" folder of the game. Can't anyone fix these broken notes?

I think reworking the soundtrack would be nicer |

Probably... The only thing I ask is:
"Make it just like the original in its tempo and in its song. Try to imagine how the author would intend it to sound like in modern computers".
Unfortunately, I can't help on that...

By the way:
1) Did anyone end it?
2) Have you found any bugs?
3) Does anyone in here has access to a jurassic computer, like a P133? I'd like to know if the remake would run in one of these and with what framerate...

no bugs until now.
i'd have just one suggestion which is imho : the music gets on my nerves extremely quickly, an option allowing to shot the pianist would be awesome |

J-War, you're not the only one complaining...
The original Skooter had a key to toogle music on/off. I'll include in the remake one key to adjust sound and music volume. Just to remember, anyone in here can help me and edit the MIDI songs that are in the sounds folder of the game? |
