I got a chuckie egg tape and I have some trouble running the game.
the tape's loading instruction is BLOAD"CE",R and that works, but the MSX(2) resets after loading the game. Maybe it's an MSX2 thing, or I'm forgetting something.... my memory is a little rusty on running tapes anyways. If anyone knows why it's not starting, I'd like to hear it.

Most of the time, the infamous POKE -1,xxx gets the job done. Here's the universal POKE that works on every MSX:
POKE -1,(15-PEEK(-1)\16)*17 |

Hmmz.. the universal poke shouldn't hang the MSX. Philips?
POKE -1,170
Or does it give a black screen after loading? |

the universal poke gives a black screen and the tape keeps running;
poke-1,170 or nothing resets the MSX after loading.
Could be a bad tape, but it does the same on both sides.
Of course I could try repearing it with some disk version I can probably find somewhere + the utility DISKTAPE if all else fails, but I'd rather not.

Indeed, better keep the original an original, eh Do other tape games work as they should?
I know the first series of 8235 (/00) had a problem with the memory mapper, but that should only give trouble with running megarom games and such, not MSX1 games. Rite? |

yes, others do work (being International Karate & Chess Game MSX2)
I guess I'll fire up the 8250 and see what that one does.
*edit - that one says "out of memory" ....now that's odd; I guess 32k doesnt fit in 512 eh?
*edit 2 - and just for fun I put in a 4MB memorymapper (in the 8250) and it starts. Now, how's that? ...and WHY?!

That 'out of memory' message... have you tried pressing CTRL-key while booting??

could make a difference; I'll try that without the mapper.

And what about booting with the SHIFT key pressed? That will prevent the disk drive to be used, therefore more RAM will be available. Use this with the "magic" POKE and it should work fine. The mapper shouldn't affect this.
