Hello fellow MSX-ers,
To provide some nice entertainment for MSX chatters, I've started work on an MSX trivia bot for IRC. It is already working quite well, but I need help filling the database. It contains 35 questions now, but to be effective and fun there need to be at least 200 more. Not all of them need to be very hard, we need easy questions too!
The questions need to be in a form where only one answer is possible. For instance:
Question: In which year was MSX first introduced?
Answer: 1983
It's also possible to use regexp matching patterns and specify tips. If no tips specified, the trivia script will give away letters of the answer. A minimal example looks like this:
Category: Hardware
Question: How many pins does the MSX cartridge connector have?
Answer: 50
Level: easy
Score: 2
A quite complete example looks like this:
Category: General
Question: Who is considered the father of MSX?
Answer: Kay Nishi
Regexp: (Kay|Kazuhiko) Nishi
Level: normal
Score: 3
Tip: Former president of ASCII corporation
Tip: He visited the Tilburg MSX fair in the year 2000
Tip: His last name is Nishi
The possible values of level are: baby, easy, normal, hard, extreme
The possible values of score are: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 (corresponding with level)
Please try to avoid questions that are related to the Dutch MSX scene/magazines. They are too hard for non-Dutch MSX-ers.
The trivia script will be activated on the Undernet channel #msxtrivia when there are enough questions in the database!
Just reply in this thread with questions, I will put them in the file.

Maybe it's an idea to check the Never Ending MSX Quiz thread (or whatever it's called) here on the MRC Lotsa questions in there as well
Anyway, a great initiative |

I had a bot on #msx from afternet... but questions got really boring really fast (in one week everyone knew the answers)
Then I created another bot, one that has the "find out the scrambled word" thing.
Made a database of MSX Games (in 8.3 name format, to make it difficult) and it was a hit! The bot randomly selects a game (and there's a lot to select from), scrambles it randomly and ppl try to discover what the "filename" is
something like: mreka
the bot shows: "The scrambled word is mreka. _ _ _ _ _"
Then if noone finds out: "first hint: K_ _ _ _ "
After sometime: second hint: "K M _ _ _"
After a while: "noone got it! the answer was KMARE"
This bot is called "Trivbot", and it's a mirc script freely available on the net, all you have to do is create a database for it
EDIT: after a month ppl were actually shouting at me, asking to remove the bot, because the thing was so damn addictive hehehehehe |

Or maybe the bot wasn't addictive, but annoying and flooding the brains out of you |

I already checked part of the quiz thread, not a lot of questions with single answers. Like, "name 10 konamis" is of no use for this purpose.
But PPL, STOP discussing, START creating database entries :-)

Wouldn't pasting them here spoil the questions? I'll write a couple down, but obscured the answers by doing ROT13 on the answers. rot13.com is your friend.
Princess Maker was made by what studio?

what's next? MD5 hashing the answers? |

Thank you for your questions.
I dont think anyone plans on recording 200 questions and then go to the trivia bot ;-)
Besides, we can have the topic removed before the trivia is activated.

Omega: still, if people have read this thread, they will recall the answers much easier, especially for the tricky ‘hey I didn’t know that’ ones... Also, a tip, most trivia bots have a means to submit new questions, and advertise this regularly... that might be a good idea to do as well.
BiFi: except that MD5 isn't reversible .

This bot also has a function to submit new questions, indeed.
Bart; I'm sure MRC would be willing to cooperate with that ;-)
I still need major help to fill the db, ppl!

To be honest, I'm not too fond of deleting forum topics, especially since I don't think people are lame enough to use this thread and then 'boost' their ego on IRC... But still isn't it a better idea to ask people to mail you the trivia? That way you're sure the answers have never been 'out in the open'...
