"Only for the ones with a really good memory"

Yesterday i was reading some really old MCN magazines, and in number 49, year 1991, Wammes column mentioned the split between several MSX users which resulted in having 2 Zandvoort fairs that year (and may have resulted in more)

Anybody know what i'm brabbling about ? I was just wondering what this may be at that time and who was involved and why ?

I didn't notice anything of this coz we were probably selling our games like mad ( the good old days were we even had to buy disks on the fair because we did not take enough with us)

grtz,
Whizzy

Ha, my first ever visit to an MSX-fair. Zandvoort 1991.

Indeed, two seperate fairs were held although one of them was really small. If I remember correctly, the other fair was initiated by MSX Mozaiek (Steven Van 't Goor.)

That about sums it up I guess... there was a little fair in an other building, but as we had a stand on the main fair too, I don't know what the 'alternative' fair looked like. According to Wammes he was about the 150'th visitor to the other fair at that time.

Anyway... The main zandvoort fair didn't lose any visitors over it I think. (just some people who attended both fairs)

But it was curious to say the least that someone would organise an alternate fair on the same day in the same town. (Maybe the organiser was rejected to get a stand on the main fair and decided to have his own fair)

Wasn't Stefan Vanhetgoor the one from that MSX-Info magazine, which changed its name later on to allow PC-games and Sega-games to be discussed in there?

Indeed there was a political situation that led to two fairs. Lots of fights going on in these days, and most fights had to do with either money (MSX was big business and illegal copies of software and hardware were common) or just stupid jealous groups.
Steven van't Goor (or with one of his other anagram based names) had a reputation of sometimes subtle and sometimes not so subtle comments about the competition in his magazine. He did have some valid points, for example the complicated situation around HSH and MSX-DOS2 and legal rights...
The magazine with pages glued together to cover the attack on Wammes is a collectors item.
I attended both fairs, the small one was indeed not crowded. And it was a beautifull day, I do remember the beach the best.

I believe the split that day was because Jaap Boomsma of the MSX shop "MSX Centrum Amsterdam" was denied to rent a booth. If you really want to know the story, ask Jaap Hogendijk (former organizer of the Zandvoort fairs).

D-Tail: You're micing people up.

Steven Vanhetgoor = Geert van Sonthoven = MSX Mozaik = 100% MSX

It was MSX Gids who changed their name to Software gids. (And MSX-Info which more or less resurrected as the still strikingly similar Dealer-Info ;P)

ahh the glued magazine. that brings back some memories.. anyone care to tell what the contents of that issue was. I remeber vaguely a huge 'war' between Wammes and the guy from MSX Mozaik.

Or does anyone have the magazine still lying around ?!

Too bad all these things happenend then..

If I remember correctly, there's a brief review of those fair(s) on one of the first Genic Magazines. I've got them somewhere on my harddisk, but am sure it's for download here on MRC.

The two buildings.. indeed. with the little corridors and stupid doors blocking some booths (the FAC ?) wheheh. It was a fun fair tho. The zandvoort 1992 fair was in collaboration with Genic I r'member. Next year was the first one attended in a big sports resident!

I remember that the guy Geert or whatever wrote pretty fiery columns where he didn't name Wammes but it was all too obvious...Still have one of those mags...Still,the magazine looked a bit shady, and immature...had a line drawing of that geert person next to it...some caricature
