Yes, it is possible with Catapult ... and my 18 boosted configurations !

1 - Rename the directory 'Machines' as 'Machines2'

2 - Download this file :

http://www.chez.com/mars2000you/blue/openmsx-BoostedMachines.zip

3 - Unzip this file ..... and you get a brand new 'Machines' directory for openMSX

4 - Put in the subdirectories the good roms (you need the roms used by the generic configs of blueMSX + the 4MB FSA1GT rom) as following :

MSX : MSX.ROM - PHILIPSDISK.ROM

MSX Brazilian : MSXBR.ROM - MICROSOLDISK.ROM

MSX German : MSXG.ROM - PHILIPSDISK.ROM

MSX Japanese : MSXJ.ROM - PANASONICDISK.ROM

MSX Korean : MSXKR.ROM - MSXHAN.ROM - NATIONALDISK.ROM

MSX Swedish : MSXSE.ROM - PHILIPSDISK.ROM

MSX2 : MSX2.ROM - MSX2EXT.ROM - MSX2PMUS.ROM - MOONSOUND.ROM - XBASIC2.ROM - PHILIPSDISK.ROM

MSX2 Arabic : MSX2AR.ROM - MSX2AREXT.ROM - MSX2PMUS.ROM - MOONSOUND.ROM - XBASIC2.ROM - PANASONICDISK.ROM - KANJI.ROM - MSXKANJI.ROM - ARABIC.ROM - SWP.ROM - PAINT.ROM

MSX2 Brazilian : MSX2BR.ROM - MSX2BREXT.ROM - MSX2PMUS.ROM - MOONSOUND.ROM - XBASIC2.ROM - MICROSOLDISK.ROM

MSX2 French : MSX2FR.ROM - MSX2FREXT.ROM - MSX2PMUS.ROM - MOONSOUND.ROM - XBASIC2.ROM - PHILIPSDISK.ROM

MSX2 German : MSX2G.ROM - MSX2GEXT.ROM - MSX2PMUS.ROM - MOONSOUND.ROM - XBASIC2.ROM - PHILIPSDISK.ROM

MSX2 Japanese : MSX2J.ROM - MSX2JEXT.ROM - MSX2PMUS.ROM - MOONSOUND.ROM - XBASIC2.ROM - PANASONICDISK.ROM - KANJI.ROM - MSXKANJI.ROM

MSX2 Korean : MSX2KR.ROM - MSX2KREXT.ROM - MSX2PMUS.ROM - MOONSOUND.ROM - XBASIC2.ROM - NATIONALDISK.ROM - HANGUL.ROM - MSX2HAN.ROM

MSX2 Only PSG : MSX2.ROM - MSX2EXT.ROM - XBASIC2.ROM - PHILIPSDISK.ROM

MSX2 Russian : MSX2R.ROM - MSX2REXT.ROM - MSX2PMUS.ROM - MOONSOUND.ROM - XBASIC2.ROM - NATIONALDISK.ROM

MSX2 Spanish : MSX2SP.ROM - MSX2SPEXT.ROM - MSX2PMUS.ROM - MOONSOUND.ROM - XBASIC2.ROM - PHILIPSDISK.ROM

MSX2+ : MSX2P.ROM - MSX2PEXT.ROM - MSX2PMUS.ROM - MOONSOUND.ROM - XBASIC2.ROM - PANASONICDISK.ROM - KANJI.ROM - MSXKANJI.ROM

Turbo-R : FSA1GT.ROM - KANJI.ROM - MOONSOUND.ROM - XBASIC2.ROM

As you can see, especially the MSX2/2+/Turbo-R configs are super-boosted : 2 MB RAM - MSX-MUSIC - MSX-AUDIO - Moonsound - Megaram 2M - Turbo-Basic 2 - 2 drives - GFX9000 (only SCC or SCC+ must be added in Catapult when you run a disk that needs the Konami chip !)

The MSX2 Only PSG config is useful to hear PSG sounds in Compile diskmagazines and games like Aleste !

Enjoy !

Note that you don't need to put the ROMs in the right subdirectory. You can also just put them all in the share/systemroms. That is, only if you added the sha1 sums to the config files, of course (I haven't checked that...)

Oh, I just wanted to check that, but I get:

Le site demandé n'est pas accessible par cette url.

Le webmaster du site n'a pas nommé correctement sa page d'accueil.

(erreur 403 indeed)

Try again, Manuel, Vampier had also this problem the first time ...

I don't have used the sha1 checksums, that's why I've given the above explanations with the subdirectories

If the above link doesn't work, try this :

Maybe you should add those sha1sums, it's a lot easier for the users...

Yes, I could do that ... but in a first step, I would to get all working boosted configs (just like in blueMSX) ... and here's the result !

Each config is exactly as the corresponding config in blueMSX, but with some differences, because Catapult is not an integrated interface and that some features are missing in Catapult (like changing easily the size of the RAM).

These differences are in the MSX2/2+/Turbo-R configs :

- RAM 2Mb (in blueMSX :512 kb by default)
- Megaram 2MB (not by default in blueMSX)
- GFX9000 (not yet supported by blueMSX)

I've just found a little error in the boosted Turbo-R config.

It concerns MSX-MUSIC, for a good balance with MSX-AUDIO, it must be as following :

<volume>13000</volume>

<mode>left</mode>

The links are updated

Anyway: great work! Reminds me of the old days when you made boosted configs for openMSX

Why would you want to change the RAM all the time?
If you aren't satisfied with it, just add a memory mapper extension of 512kB, 1MB or 4MB. What are the other differences? (I'm curious!)

Thanks !

There are no other differences than the above mentioned (by comparison with the original blueMSX configs)

About the RAM : generally, 512 Kb is more than enough ... but it happens that I want more to test for example loadrom with megaroms ... so, 2MB is comfort when you don't have a machine editor (in blueMSX, some clicks and I have a new machine !).

Of course, your solution with the memory mapper extension can be used in Catapult, it's just another approach. My boosted configs are such a compromise between the approachs of both emulators. I think also that it can help some blueMSX users to use openMSX with more comfort.

There is actually a good reason to use only 512K in a turbo R: with more memory, programs that read the memory mapper register will fail. That includes the horrible hack known as MAP.COM. Unless you put in a different memory mapper in the turbo R configs of course.

Also some poorly written programs cannot deal with multiple mappers or even any mapper that is not in slot 3. So an additional mapper cartridge is not the same as more internal memory. On turbo R the internal mapper will always be the primary mapper (because it is faster) and some programs only use the primary mapper.

So I think the ideal boosted turbo R would have 2MB inside (some programs have problems with 4MB because they store the number of banks in a byte -> overflow) and the mapper implementation as found in for example the Philips NMS series, not the turbo R mapper which is not fully readable.
