Game manual scans

I was wondering if anyone knows a site that has scans of msx game manuals;
if not, I was wondering what people here think of the idea of setting up one.
That way, people using emulators, or people who have carts but no manuals with them, or people who are simply interested, could have access to the manuals. And also, if you have a Japanese version the manual might be hard to read ; and the other way round; the Japanese manuals often look cooler and then you can get to look at them.
..but hey, maybe something like that is already there and I just never found it

IIRC, there's some manuals online at braingames.getput.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=366&PN=1... No real site with manuals tho (but it would be cool to have it!)

I hope no one will start spreading manuals, otherwise resale games will start poping up with fake home-printer manuals

well, that's kind of a bad reason (IMO) to not do this:

- I don't know if it's a good idea in the first place to immediately assume this will happen
- One would be able to tell the difference
- Just because something *might* happen, we decide not to do something at all, even though it could be interesting for a lot of people

but, as prevention, one could type out the manuals instead of scanning them. Saves lots of valuable webspace too.

This is true, a typed version is ok, as long as it's not a high resolution scan of original, it's fine by me

Costs a lot of time tho...

I personally wouldn’t really mind scans.

Well, the advantage of scanned ones is they're entirely genuine, and less work. The disadvantage is it might be used for evil selling purposes.

The advantage of typed is it's less prone to "illegal"use (though in theory still possible), and highly "portable" due to small size. The disadvantage is it's more error-prone and more work to produce.

The advantage of nothing at all is that it's the least time consuming and there's no way nothing it can be used the wrong way. The disadvantage is there's nothing at all.....

I'm the webmaster for an online project to preserve game documentation in high quality PDF format. I'd love to add a MSX section if any of you guys are willing to donate to the cause. We already have over 1500 manuals across various platforms. If you're interested visit www.replacementdocs.com

That's a great site; I'll be happy to help, though it might take a little while. Also, the number of manuals I have myself isn't huge, so I hope others will support the idea as well.
Do you accept Japanese Manuals too, btw? I know they can't be read by most, but in the case of MSX they often have better artwork, etc.

I haven't decided what to do about non-English manuals. Up until now we have been an English-only site - primarily because I do most of the editing/posting work and I was getting swamped

Doing English-only seemed to be a good way to help manage my workload a little bit. But if I manage to bring on some more editors (which I hope to do soon), maybe we will expand into non-English stuff. But as for now, no, sorry...

Please be aware that putting game manual scans online may violate copyrights. Just so that you know (not to start a discussion again on what we think of that)

I highly appreciate the idea of manuals on-line!

I really like to see manuals for my cartridge games which someone asshole has stoled in the past and for second-hand bought carts which didn´t got instructions with them anymore. And for some cassette games too!
For years I have cursed that thingy that Commodore 64 users has had typed (and later scanned) manuals for hundreds and hundreds and hundreds of games on-line from the 90s and now it´s 2005AD and we MSXers still don´t have any but few typed and scanned manuals!!!

It´s so unfair!!!

and thought typed manuals save memory space, they don´t have possible artwork of instructions.

Yeah... I think too that cars must be strictly prohibited in every nation, as even looking to the car can kill you...
