Hi all. I would like to find an old topic, I know the I was the topicstarter and know some keywords. What are my possibilities to find it?
I looked for an advanced search option but couldn't find it.

The search engine of MRC is really not good : no distinction between news and messages in the forums.
For my part, I use always the advanced features of Google, it works really better than the MRC search feature

I think snout made the MRC search this crappy to encourage people to use g00gl3 instead... dunno why, though |

Not good is an understatement . Why not just replace it with google search? At least its ranking system works better. |

Cripes, thanks for the compliments, guyz. Really encouraging stuff, this... Actually I'm working on some improvements on the search engine (and even an advanced search screen) that will make the results quite a bit better and faster.
Still, it's odd that you comment on the MRC Search engine not making a distinction between news/forumposts etc, while you recommend the use of google, which.. indeed... doesn't distinct between news/forumposts etc. |

Com on, don't take it personal. Nobody said that Google is the perfect replacement for the current searchengine, only that it is a usable workaround.
An dedicated searchfunction would be great of course! Good to hear that you're working on it.
My input:
- search on topicstarter
- subforum (forumfilter)
- date
- search in users (own) posthistory
A good example IMHO is the searchfunction of got.tweakers.net. |

I wasn't talking about your initial post, Jazzy, but about the far from constructive replies from BiFi and Grauw. Especially since MRC's search engine isn't half that bad (just think of the horror of the very first search engine we had here )
The suggestions you posted are things that are useful for the improvement of the search engine and I think all will be implemented in time. Your patience will, as usual,. be rewarded. |

At least THAT engine had an option to search the news, forum, downloads, etc. using a toggle.
Snout really should remember something about me which has proven quite useful to him as well sometimes... |

As I said, Google's ranking system works much better. I have tried to use the MRC search engine a dozen of times, and the times it actually found what I was looking for can pretty much be counted on 2 fingers. Based on such bad experiences with it, I think I can be a little harsh (call it frank) on it.
Besides, my critisism was constructive, as I said: replace it with Google. Works better, minimal effort. If you make something that works badly, don’t be taking it personally if people tell you so.
Bah.

p.s. well, one really constructive tip then: ditch the OR-ing of the search terms in favour of AND-ing them together. That should make a world of difference. |
