In many games, holding SELECT down while booting changes frequency. Unfortunately there is no global solution to this...

besides, keep in mind all Japanese software was -intended- to run on 60Hz, so if your display can cope with 60Hz, I wouldn't change it to 50Hz |

Hum... I think it depends of the game. If the game jumps to 60 Hz and there is no option to change then you will not been able to play at 50 Hz. Maybe... is there a TSR (resident) program that enables this option using a mapped key?

NYYRIKKI: such games are either non-japanese or japanese games altered in some way to have such a feature.
You can always make some small interrupt hooked routine which forces it back to 50Hz

IIRC, Cheat Master by MSX-Engine allowed you to switch the frequency in-game. It's quite buggy though, with most games I tried it with...

I think the game was intended to play on 60 hz... if you will play it on 50hz the gameplay will not be smooth and the music runs to slow...
but why 50hz??? Do you use an old colour television that goes LSD/Mushroom when it hits 60hz??? I had one in the early days.... getting pretty mad and bought a philip VGxxxx rgb monitor.. problem solved...

Playing at 50Hz is just as smooth as at 60Hz. Just slower. And with that, easier for the lesser gamer. |
