Do you think it's worth buying a DAEWOO Zemmix Super V MSX2 Machine???

I'm a beginner in this whole MSX machine things, I dunno if it's really worth it since all I want ot do is to play both MG and MG 2, but I'm not sure if with this machine I'll be able to play them fully (read: save the game). I'm also interested in programming in BASIC and all that kind of stuff, but again, I'm not sure if this machine is capable of doing all that...

Anyone knows if it's worth it???

The Daewoo Zemmix Super V is quite a collectors MSX computer. Apart from its rarity and high pricing, afaik the Super V is a console that does not support external keyboards, making it not suitable for learning to code in BASIC. I'd suggest you to leave the Super V to a genuine collector, and get yourself an 'ordinary' MSX2 instead.

Also, it may not have a cassette lead to be able to save with Metal Gear. ANd it may not have BASIC at all, since it is a console... But OK, I don't know that, as these things are quite rare
I suppose it's a whole lot cheaper to buy an ordinary MSX2 indeed, and if it has a diskdrive, it's easy to save with Metal Gear 2, e.g.

But I heard finding and MSX 2 is quite hard... not to mention that since I'm in Mexico, where PCs were pratically unknown (and un-used) until the appearence of the first Pentium machine, the possibilities of finding it in a "Pawn" shop are nearly impossible.

And on internet, the only MSX 2 machine I've found will be sold in one day, and the guy who COULD buy it for me will get online 'til monday...

This one on E-bay DOES supports external keyboard as well (at least so say the seller) but indeed U should buy a "normal" msx 2 instead somewhere on e-bay and let it send it to you, there are auctions all the time on the Dutch e-bay site, just beware that sending from Holland to Mexico will be somewhere between 50 and 100 euro....

Dang... that's definantly OUT of my finances...

So, even if it supports a keyboard, you don't recommend me buying the DAEWOO machine even when I don't have any MSX watsoever???

Do you have 60Hz 110V in Mexico or 50Hz and/or 220V? If you have the first you can get an MSX from Japan and although shipping is probably a bit expensive you'll get away with less money than paying for a collectors item like the Zemmix. MSX2's are sold quite cheap in both europe and japan.

I live in the US and its really hard to find something locally here in north america. I've been looking for an MSX1 with 64kB ram and a disk drive for over a year on ebay and haven't found anything. If anyone in the US have one for sale let me know

Mexico uses the NTSC system so you'll have to get an MSX from Japan.

One other possibility is to buy an MSX2 with diskdrive from Europe (arround 30 euros) and a cheap PAL-NTSC converter.

You can also wait till the appearance of the One Chip MSX (which surely will support NTSC) if you want brand new hardware but it will cost you arround 200 euros.

Most modern TV sets that have a SCART socket will accept either a PAL or NTSC signal (via the SCART) I have a NTSC TurboR - no problam on my SCART TV set.

SCART is rare and in fact non-existant in Mexico/USA.

The best advice is to buy a MSX-2(+) from Japan: no problems with power and NTSC

I got my Panasonic FS-A1WSX from japan and it works great here in US. The WSX also have S-Video which gives a really good picture on a TV.

If the main point is playing MG and programming some basic, why not just install an MSX emulator on your PC, grab MG and MG2 from the net somewhere and get going?

Or at least use an emulator until you spot a nice MSX2 on Ebay to buy? In my opinion, that would be better than to go to something weird like the Zemmix.

Will NLMSX do the trick? Thing about that emulator is that it can't save and stuff.

BTW, I'm going to buy a MSX2 machine from Sony, anyway.

Try blueMSX. Its pretty good. It also has save states which is nice when playing games. You can get more info about different emulators at the MSX Emulator Comparison
