PIONEER PX7 - faulty units

I have five of these units that have a faulty VDP, at least that is what I have been told by ROBSY.

I intend keeping one of them, the other four are taking up valuable space. Robsy will confirm that I have a small house full of lots of junk!! I will keep one of the units - just in case I find a spare VDP!

I will find out postage costs to the EU and perhaps further if people want them. If no one wants them they will go to the tip!

These units are being sold as faulty, with no guarentee what so ever! The only thing that I will say is that each one comes complete with a box. A base unit and a keyboard is all that is included.

The VDP is a TMS9919NL which is discontinued. I have located none over the past couple of months.

If people are interested in having one of these units please place your name and country in the thread following this forum post. If there are more than four interested persons I shall put the units on ebay, where as you all know the best man (or woman) wins!

If there are four or less takers then the cost will be the postage, plus paypal charges.

Several methods to make a MSX-2 out of a MSX-1:
- some MSX-1 machines are infact MSX-2 machines and have the 9938 IC already but lack the MSX-2 ROMS and videoram. Like the Spectravideo SVI.738 and some Yamaha machines
- add a cartridge with a MSX-2 video IC inside and videoram and MSX-2 roms. This was the method used a lot in Brasil. I dont know if the design of this cartridge has been published.
The MSX-1 vdp (9918/9929) and msx-2 vdp 9938 are not at all pin compatible. So it would be a real hardware redesign to insert the 9938 in a MSX-1.
Note that a upgrade to MSX-2 means not only the hardware vdp, but also more videoram and the MSX-2 ROMS. Otherwise programs will not recognise running on a MSX-2.

I just recently saw a PX-7 in action and i would be very interested in getting one, altough broken, but shipping to Finland is probably very expensive. Can you give me any estimations? Speed is not important here.

Hi everyone!
I am not a hardware guy, but the former owner told me that the problem was related to the faulty VDPs. Of course, I cannot confirm this fact, but I guess that he knew what he was talking about: he was a technician and his house was like a computer junkyard.
As djh says, they come in their original box, their appearance is almost perfect and they all boot and work fine, except the faulty video output. If you think that you can fix them, it is a good chance to get one of the rarest MSX computers.

I forgot to mention that the closing date will be Oct 1st.

THe TMS9919NL was an upgraded version of the standard TMS9919, at least that is what I have been told

Postage costs......

The boxes are not in the best condition, so I will add £3 for addional packaging.

UK £9.32 (not signed for) £19.00 (1st class parcel post)

EU £33.90 (signed for)

USA £69.95 (signed for)

BRAZIL $97.75 (signed for)

If any other destination is need please get in touch! The boxes are twenty years old and a little "shabby" so i will package them in brown packing paper, to ensure safe arrival.

Paypal is the preferred payment option, since I am making no money on these , there will be a 5% surcharge for paypal payments.

I have two other people intrerested in the machines, Richard (aka Vortexion) and a Spanish MSX user.

I'm the spanish user interested in the PX7

I'm still tracking down those VDP's. It's possible to find that upgraded TMS in a normal MSX1??

What's so special to the TMS9919, compared to the 9918 or 9929? They are all compatible, right?
