Because Jon (who designed the thing IIRC) obviously doesn't have enough time for MSX.
He has been promising Compass 2 for years already, and every deadline he states gets broken.

iirc the soundchip of the musicmodule and even the psg use there own power to play apart from the Z80, so, if an cpu used as a mp3 decoder controled by the Z80, where the Z80 only give the commands to decode and send the data to a soundchip, than don't we need much cpu power.
Correct me if i'm wrong.

Jon de Schrijder has already created such a device long time ago. Including a nice player for CD-ROM. I think I saw the first version of it in 1999.

And there are some other strange hardware pieces, like the C+/Nagravision decoder that enabled MSX2 and above computers to view such channels without paying a dime.
The project appeared some time ago, and it was leadered by the MATRA boys. Real hi-tech for MSX fans!

Have a look here: http://www.amiga-hardware.com/mas.html
It's a parallel port MP3 player, and should be easily adapted to the MSX. The plans for building it are available on the net, and it's available in pre-built form as well. |

Cool.
If we get more hardware at a good price this could be fine.

I guess the Hardware isn´t a problem, I also know one guy that adapted the MAS Player to work on his atari XL
The Problem is, who will write the software (music player) for it ? |

Jon de Schrijder was also well advanced with that one. He had a player that played MP3 files from CD-ROM, supporting iD3 tags. IIRC he was even working on some playlist features. In short: the hardware is there, the software is there (at least partly), now someone has to do the finishing touch.
A nice casing around the player, a nice user interface for the player and -wham- MP3 on MSX!
