I can't find it in the past polls section. Maybe another MSX site did such a poll? But indeed, no harm in repeating this one as it's an interesting one

How about a poll to see how much RAM people got on their MSX ?

* <= 64
* 128
* 256
* 512
* >=1024

There are really not many programs which are using more than 128 or 256kb and that is sad since the remaining MSX users progrably have better configs. Not to mentions emulators where Ram can be configured. That would be an interesting poll for programmers to know if they can use more RAM without restricting the audience too much. It's often an extra burden to have squeeze your code / gfx / music.

I like the poll Maggoo suggests... Though if you really want a program to run on every MSX, it would be quite necessary to stick to 64 KB minimum. Every MSX2 system has at least 64 KB of user ram. This shouldn't mean you would be restricted to just that 64 KB. You can always use the rest of user ram to cache data in, making in-program loading even faster.

All the loading / memory limitation tends to be a big overhead while programming games or demos. And it's quiet annoying if your production has to load every now and then. MSX can't do much while loading.

Beleive me I'd rather focus on other things (playability/ design / speed) than on how to get everything to fit under 64k.

Years ago, during the ROM/MCCM enquete, it appeared that 80% has 256k or more. The ppl who reacted were probably the more active ones (since most of them filled-in the form on the fair (in zandvoort iirc)), and I guess the more active ones from back then or still amongst us now..

About compatibility: if you code, not for a real msx, but for an msx-emu, then the ram problem is gone.

Hmmm the second time a GuyveR poll makes it to the frontpage (with a little help of Mark Jelsma's suggestions) I think we're in need of new poll suggestions, so... take it away again!

A simple one:
should MRC take the lead in organising an international MSX fair?
- yes, MRC is *the* party to organise this
- No, CGV Tilburg has done it, should keep doing it
- No, Another party should organise
- MSX???

or something like that...

More ideas for future polls, they are actually inspired by recent and less recent discussions on this forum or on the front page of MRC :

* Which is your preferred assembler ?

* Which is your preferred emulator ?

In both cases, you can limit easily the choice to 4 possibilities (for the emulators in alphabetical orde : blueMSX - NLMSX - openMSX - paraMSX)

Running out of ideas ? Here are a few others...

Since we did all the "What's the best", let's go for "What's the worse", for example:

* What's the worse commercial MSX game ?
* What's the lamest demo ever ?
* What's the worse MSX tune in a game ?
* Who's the ugliest /scariest dude in the MSX scene (could be a fierce fight there) ?
* What's the most stupid hardware gizmo for MSX ?

possibilities are almost endless

About the 'which is your preferred emulator' -> I'm planning to do a new Emulator Comparison somewhere in the future, and thought it would be a nice idea to let the top 6 emulators battle on a frontpage poll.

Preferred assembler doesn't sound like a mega-poll but needs some pre-selection. Lets see.. we got

Chaos Assembler (actually is an IDE...)
Compass
GEN80
SjASM
tniASM
WBAss
Z80ASM

anyone knows more assemblers than these?
