The MT32 is really nice. I had one but unforutnately I sold it. Sounds kindof like a Roland JX-8P but with less fat sound.

Had an MT32 while I was experiementing with the midi-out of FST-pro, I know the sounds. They were also present as the variation-sounds in the JW-50 I used @ Muzax3. (dunno about other soundcanvas-clones with those variations)
I can't really imagine the FM'ness transferred to MT32. According to some ppz, it really sucks for IC |

| btw, is there some MT32 recording of IC online somewhere? Somehow I feel someone needs to convince me of its superiority.

Sure, check Adriano's Illusion City translation page at http://www.alsoftware.com.br/adrianpage/illusioncity/.
I recorded all those songs from my CM-64 (which is the device MicroCabin made the music for). Basically it's an MT-32 with a sound effects bank (the sfx are used twice or so). |

i was taking about GM emuation (MT32) ........
There's nothing wrong with FM synthesis in emulators sounds good enough....
Maybe VSTi suport isnt such bad thing........to be able parameters like pitch, chorus, reverb, resonance&cutoff in reatime would be awsome. midi slave suport using msx emulators as music instruments! nice idea !

poisonic: all those extra parameters would only be interesting when you use the FM-pac/scc/psg etc. purely as a single soundsource in a bigger music-setup. For current MSX-made music (games, musicdisks etc.) it's rather pointless.
And when it comes to being 'an instrument' in a bigger setup, not in a hundred years would I use an MSX then, there're way better altenatives. Don't forget that we're talking about sound-chips from the early 80's, it's not like wavetable-synths and FM-synths didn't advance since then. I mostly see reasons here related to nostalgia, not to common sense.
otoh, don't let me stop any development.. I just think it's a waste of time tho |
