i have a sunrise ide interface, connected to a hdd.
i want to format the hdd how can i do that?
is there a format.com?
i can see the drive A letter in dos2 but not in basic.
also if i have formatted the drive, will i also see it in basic?
if i do the call format in basic i only get the b and c drive, that are the discstations afcourse, but there is no a witch i thing he sees for the
hdd but only in dos?
thank you in advance.
i also did something with the idefdisk util, and the latest he said
disk i/o error on a in basic (the disk is okey but i am doing something wrong, or am missing some programs to finish this)

FDISK first. Use the sunrise diskette first.

You can initialize the partitions from idefdisk. Please read the IDE FAQ on http://faq.msxnet.org/

if you just type "Files" in basic, you get teh dir listing of the default drive, which is drive A.

Any valid partition is also visible in Basic.

You don't need to use call format or format.com. The FDISK program will do it for you. (AFAIK, I don't have an IDE, only some experience with SCSI and IDE under openMSX...)

It is quite easy. You have to remember the use of fdisk or idefdisk, that's the formatting program. You come first dos and see drive letter B: than use fdisk.
Pressing A,W,I. Copy the systemfiles of msxdos2.sys and the command2.com to a ,reset and done

i did the firmware update, witch i wanted to avoid, because if goes wrong, you lose the interface.
but after the update the drive worked right away.
thanks

You mean loosing data. The interface itself will not be destroyed by updating software
