Dumping Text/Script from MSX Disk Files

I was wondering what the process is and how one would manage to dump the script from a MSX game, preferably a series of .dsk files? I'm interested in possibly starting a romhacking project in the near future concerning the translation of either the Xak Art of Visual Stage J for SNES or Xak I & II for NEC PC-Engine. I wanted to make a dump of the English version script from Xak The Art of Visual Stage MSX as well as the Japanese version to use as reference notes for when and if I start this project.

Many thanks,

-SkyeWelse

You could try comparing the disks of the Japanese and the English version. The difference between the two will probalbly be mostly the text data. I don't know the specifics, but I do know there are tools for a job like that. Just try finding one on the internetz.

Some of these script dumping tools also have halfway decent script (re)insertion options. So look for that. Process of dumping scripts differs somewhat per program. But basically it comes down to these steps:

1. find order of charset table
2. find DTEs and FTEs (if aplicable)
3. dump script

The only tool I can seem to find to try this out is one that extracts the script from Snatcher. Would you all happen to know where I might find any other script dumping tools or what the names of these tools are?

Thanks,

Check this site out, it's the center of all the romhacking translation projects:

http://www.romhacking.net/

I'm sure you'll be able to find tools and information on the site and forum.
