Rob: when I arrive at home, first thing I will do is to test you apps |

Well if anyone does test it, I hope it's looking something like this. Would be nice to confirm though.
When Prodatron returns I'd really like to see if we can't get full screen a DirectX-like library up a running so the development of cross platform games can become a reality. Being able to use XXXk of graphics, video and all loaded off HD opens up gaming potential somewhat
Regards Rob. |

You can do a certain user a pleasure by using Audrey Tautou pix in SymbOS.., whatever he sees in her.. |

Okay Wolf_ You're strange But she is pretty cute I must admit. Try
www.dread-donkey.com/symstudio/downloads/audrey.zip
It's actually a .DSK so just change the zip to dsk
Should look something like this.

Oh and just click on MENU to skip to a new image. That's if it works in the 16 colour???????????? |

Can I just ask if anyone has plans or even slight musings that they will develop something for symbos one day? Is symbos something people actually use or is it just a fun demo of what an z80 can do?

I'd like to attempt something at some point. However, currently SymbOS itself isn't quite running properly on my system. Plus SymStudio isn't quite pleasant to use on Linux. It needs all the pictures to be resized to an even width to display properly. But even after that it's quite slow while being rather high in the cpu load (which is actually not uncommon for a blitz app, they appear to use some unusual win32 api stuff).

Hi trebmint,
I have tried both slideshow dsk files but could not get it working. It always hangs in the window that says "picture slider by rob buckley is loading".
I tried it on following configurations:
1) On One Chip MSX (OCM) with Sunrise IDE interface, using SymbOS 2.0
2) On OCM with the build-in SD-card reader, using SymbOS 2.1
3) On OpenMSX, emulating a Philips NMS 8255, with SymbOS 2.0 .dsk file in drive A and the picture slider .dsk file in drive B
I also wanted to try on my MSX turbo R but could not succeed due to bad/unclean/corroded mouse-port. The mouse button did not work. Will try it another time once I have cleaned all the connectors.
Kind regards,
Alex

Trebmint, I guess it's the same with Meridian, a great delta steptime midi sequencer. People didn't start using it because it had its flaws. Only when a product is 100% smooth, people will use it.
I must admit, I still have trouble installing SymbOS in the first place. I'm a true Dummy, I know. But I have read other stories as well. A true SymbOS for Dummies would mean a GREAT boost for the program.
And after that installment, you WILL get third party utils, I'm sure |

I actually see SymbOS as a possible default boot-up OS for the 1chipMSX. Apart from all that: Symbos is like an office/apps environment. I ask you, what office-like applications do you want to run on the fastest and most boosted MSX (overclocked turbo R with G9k)?
- designers/sprite editors are a no no because of the fixed palette
- music tools: for trackers 'n stuff the screen updates aren't fast enough
- text editors, spreadsheets, databases, email-clients, irc-clients: all very possible, but who's honestly going to use it?
If SymbOS would be used to run normal games then SymbOS would be like Windows 3.11, e.g. it would be pointless to boot in DOS, boot up Win3.11 and click a Doom2 icon which exits to DOS to run doom2.exe, and then go back to Windows3.11 again.. all this could've been skipped by just running Doom2 from a DOS prompt directly..
So, for the moment I'm not much sure what to do with SymbOS, I'm affraid.. |

Latok: afaik Meridian isn't finished yet, that's the main problem.
(and of course, delta steptime is evil, the way it's currently implemented ) |

Can someone tell me how to get Symbos started on a OCM ?
I tried the search, but unfortunatly I have to say the search on this site is not so good.
I downloaded the symbos-msx.zip from symbos.de and tried both the .dsk file and the folder structure in the ZIP on my SD card and Symbos does boot up, but as soon as I move my mouse the system freezes.

luppie: exactly what I mean. I tried installing it on my 1chipMSX as well. And on my turboR. I'm getting confused with all these partitions, non supported diskdrives etc. etc. It demotivates me. But I'm sure it DOES work. And it's a GREAT OS.....Let's give it another try, in some days time |
