In the image I uploaded I put the apps in the wrong directory. They should be in the root. I've updated the zip so that one should work too.

This image ( http://www.symbos.de/files/symboshd.zip ) contains some more files.
Just start blueMSX, insert Sunrise IDE in slot 1 and this image as IDE Master, start the emulator and after MSX-DOS2 has been booted, type "symbos". Then everything should be fine now (I hope?). You don't need a floppy disk anymore. |

Maybe DiskManager creates the partition at position 1 in the MBR, not at 4, or maybe it does not partitionize the hard disc at all. In this case SymbOS currently won't find the partition.

Just made some fast tests ... That's really amazing, it's Windows on MSX !
Prodatron, you have made an excellent work, especially if we consider that it's a first version and that you has made this version in some weeks ! I think the MSX community will enjoy your work ! |

Hmm, I still get disc error 02.... Is it a problem if the harddisk image gets enlarged? |

@manuel, I'm trying to run the image in openMSX but it doesn't boot up in msxdos. I'm using the GT machine (and have the hd.dsk file in several directories since I'm not sure where its loaded from). The ide bootup finds a disk though but it looks unformatted. So maybe I didn't put the hd.dsk file in the right directory. Do you know where it should be located on an XP system?

@Manuel: Error 02 means "Drive is not initialized". That means, it tried to mount the drive, but couldn't find it correctly. The reasons can be:
- the IDE hardware does not exist
- the partition does not exist
- the partition has an unsupported file system or read errors
Did you try it in BlueMSX, too? Unfortunately I didn't test it in OpenMSX yet, as up to know I didn't manage to set up the Sunrise IDE there.

@manuel: can you create an openMSX bootable ide with SymbOS and post it here? It doesn't take too long. Just copy all files in the first package Prodatron posted into A: (including the symbos files)

Hi. I tried the http://www.symbos.de/files/symbosmsx.zip files on my turboR with CF. All I get is a b/w desktop, and it hangs, and puts the KANA led on.. I don't need to have the DSK there I guess? Can the executable be run from any partition as long as the files are also on #4? Cuz I get a Wrong version of MSX-DOS message starting from #4. Or do I need to use DOS 1? |

You must find the openMSX directory in 'My Documents' : in the Win Explorer, click on the link 'My Documents'.
the hd.dsk file must go in the subdirectory openMSX/persistent/ide/untitled1
then you need to change the hd size in openMSX/share/extensions/ide/hardwareconfig.xml |

Thanks mars200you. It works now I didn't change the size in the hardware config.
Btw, is there a way to lock the mouse so its not turning into a pc mouse when its going outside the emulator window?
-edit-
Hmm, It boots up ok but I can't see any applications. Any ideas? |

Tried now with SET EXPERT=ON, and that got rid of the "wrong version of MSXDOS" error, but still hangs and black/white.

SymbOS currently hangs on the MSX for a special duration, when there is no IDE present. But after a while the IDE detection should timeout and you should be able at least to move the mouse and open the Start->Run dialogue. If not, there is another problem (does the clock work?).
You can start the file from any partition or disc drive, as I use MSXDOS for the complete loading process. Only SymbOS itself requires the Sunrise IDE in slot 1 with a HD in the master channel + partition 4.
Uh, I see, I need to hurry up with the FDC support!... I also should hurry up with an automatic partition detection. |

I just asked Bifi for openmsx. There you type "toggle grabinput" in the console. Don't think it's bound to a key.
