Now it worked.. in z80 mode. Timing issue? Btw, I have a 32MHz xtal in my MSX. No 28MHz.

I tested again, what happens without IDE drive: After the desktop appears, the system is very slow for about 1 minute. After 1 or 1,5 minute, the detection times out and you can play around normally with the mouse and the run dialogue. This crazy long timeout seems to be an issue that comes with the CPC origin, so I have to have a look on it.

Now I can move the cursor, but it always tries to move an icon. Same with or without mouse. I try to open the start menu, and it just keeps blinking..

What happens in openMSX is strange : on the commandline, if I use CD, I can see the contents of the subdirectory but after launching of SymbOS, I still get the error mentioned by manuel if I click on an icon or use the browser for example.

xtal is just short for cristal. I have a R800 but with a 32MHz and 40MHz cristal. The 28MHz broke Yes, button 1 is always pressed.

Ok, I will setup OpenMSX with Sunrise IDE asap to test it by myself. I will have to leave now, thank you for testing so far and have a nice evening!

I couldn't get it to work on openMSX. But it seems to run fine on my tR from CF. It runs like a dream in R800 mode (it boots in under a second

For the record, a plain CF boot on a FS-A1ST with one partition and all the symbos files in the root.

Navigation is a bit tricky though with the problem Algo reported. It's basically automatic repeat of the button press. (This happens no matter what is actually connected.) Also the mouse movement doesn't resemble the actual movement. The mouse routines definitely need some work.

I did find a way to test it though. By positioning the mouse by graph+[cursor] on the "Run..." position and then pressing ctrl-esc, I did get the run window. You can then navigate by keyboard relatively well if the keep the mouse of the windows.

Had a few crashes though. It even tried to access my FDD once (and hung up). Looks impressive though! Can't wait to see it work when it gets more polished!

Now I tried with one A1ST turbo R and one A1GT. On the ST it's the same setup as Edwin except for the ram being expanded to 512kb. The A1GT is 1024kb. I still cannot boot in R800 mode. Something to do with the ram detection? When I start it in Z80 mode it works just like his, but the colors are just grayscale! No brownish colors.

I am back now.
- First I will have a look at the "button 1 is always pressed" problem. Maybe I read the PSG in a wrong way, but strange, that it doesn't happen in the emulator (even in tR mode). Maybe there is something different with the TurboR and the PSG/joystick/keyboard?
- I am looking forward to test it on a real Philips VG8235 next week. My current one has a broken disc drive (as usual). I wonder if anyone tested SymbOS on a "normal" MSX2 up to now? (seems that you all have really cool pumped up machines ).
- Regarding the ram detection it doesn't seem to work correctly yet, as in BlueMSX it detects 576 (like on the CPC) instead of 512 KB. This could indeed be a problem.
- Strange thing with the colours... But first let's fix the other problems...

Hi prodatron, Only now i can see your work in action...

Really impressive; It is responsive, screen I/O is quite fast and runs like a dream!
Considering that's only a alpha release i also quite stable.

Unfortunately my real hw can not run it, because i do not own the sunride IDE interface, but i will be happy to test when fdd support comes out.

When i think that my crappy w2003 sometimes seems to lock for 2 seconds in it's ui! With a pentium centrino @1.8ghz, ati 3d accelerated card and so on... Windows with this hw run like a snail (...but this is another story...)

Good job & evening, Prodatron, let's see your progress...

Regarding grayscale problem. Uhm, if i remember correctly there is a bit in some vdp register that turns on grayscale output on composite screen. I never seen this in action but maybe...

Uhhh... Sorry, I'm an idiot.. The grayscale is because you switch to 50Hz. RGB cable fixed the problem. Strange though. Svideo should work in 50Hz too! Ah, well.. Sorry for the trouble. I will try on a standard A1WX MSX 2+ now.

Edit: Now I've tested with an A1WX MSX 2+. It's only got 64kb ram, so I tried with a 512kb cartridge. No go. But I guess you knew that it won't work with ram expansion.
I also tried my 256kb expanded SVI-738 MSX 2, but the only cartridge slot there is slot 2. Slot 1 is used internally, so it didn't meet the specs eighter.
Both show the desktop though. (and yes... in color )

When the mouseclick thing and the ramdetection is working, I can test on at least 4 different MSX types.

I'm eagerly awaiting more bytes
-Dan
