I've recently downloaded the disk images of the translated SD SNatcher and would really like to play it on my real MSX2. Is there a way to copy these images onto a real floppy so that they will boot on the MSX computer?

On a general note; yes, it's possible to write disk-images to a real floppy disk. On a legal note: Please read our policies regarding discussions about illegally copied software. While you're not soliciting copyrighted material, we really prefer to avoid discussions regarding 'warez' altogether. And hey, if there's one MSX2 game worth buying it's probably SD-Snatcher... Keep your eyes on ebay, and you may get lucky!

The best tool to transfer a disk image on a real disk is DiskManager, that you can find on the RuMSX site :

Good point Sonic. I don't advocate piracy at all. But then SD SNatcher isn't available in English so my original disks are useless to me....hence me wanting disks of the hack.

I downloaded Disk Manager but it comes with very little documentation and I can't figure out how to use it. Any help?

Start Disk manager
- Click on File
- Click on Open (select the .dsk file on your harddisk)
- Click on Open (or doubleclick on this .dsk file)
- Put a MSX formatted disk in the diskdrive of your PC
- Click on File
- Click on Write to Disk
- Click on OK

there is also a little program you can use in DosPrompt,
Its called DCOPY (is that correct??)

You go to dosprompt and typ:

DCOPY SDSDISK1.DSK A:

and it copies all the sectors of this disk image to the A: drive.

That should work fine.

Or use "dd" for Linux. Also available for win32:
Unix Utils
(dd.exe)

Hmm. I get this messgae:

"This does not seem to be a valid MS(X)-DOS image."

I'm using the translated disk images from Generation MSX, by the way.

In most cases, this message means that the disk image has a special boot sector that is different from the MSX-DOs or MS-DOS standard formats. But you can still try to transfer the disk image on a real disk, in some cases it will work (if there's no a vicious anticopy protection).
