In a previus post, i've told about games with 1 or 4 pixel smooth scroll:

I know:

GROG'S revenge (1 pixel scroll with colorful background)
circus charlie (1 pixel scroll also with colorful background, however, less smooth)
desolator (less colorful, but very fast & smooth)
Moon Patrol (4 pixel scroll, with parallatic effects)

Did anyone know other games with those features on msx1? I would be a complete list to compare different approach to the problem.

thx.

Talkin' about just horizontal scroll or vertical too? *Pippols*

Circus Charlie uses a very tricky scroll planning, similar to track and field, using horizontal static lines to get the visual impresion of the scroll while just a little portion of the screen+sprites are updated.

Robsy showed me an MSX game that features multidirectional smooth scroll, I think it was a ROM but I don't remember its title...

BTW, there are tons of speccy ports that feature scrolls, but are really * s l o w *, as those scrolls weren't planned for the MSX hardware.

Well, Soldier of Light and Commando Tracer for example, are very good speccy ports with (specially in the second game) very good scrolls. Most of Animagic conversions have good scrolls (Xenon, Mortadelo 2, Soldier of Light, etc...)

High Way Star (1983) which has a Spanish version called "Race City" (1988, Iber) is also another very good example of good scroll (vertical and horizontal) on MSX 1.

Commando Tracer is a good example of multilayer scroll!... and for 4 pixels scroll, take A.M.C. as example: it has a 2 layer scroll, first is 8 pixels scroll and the background one is 4 pixels scroll. The result is quite good (and fast).

It's 2 pixels scroll if I'm not wrong...

For the multidirectional scroll look Iligks Episode One - Theseus, it's really good!

Sorry. I did not explain more precisely. I think to exclude speccy games that do scroll with CPU brute force of course.

Avenger is quite smooth as well, iirc, also from Gremlin Graphics.

And of couse Bosconian, but you can hardly call that a scroll, as it's just sprites moving.

I'm interested, does anyone own this game? Can anyone do a mpeg to see how scroll?

Avenger, is scrolling at 8x8 pixels. Not what i mean. Plus is the usual speccy conversion.

Rules are:

No blocky: No 8x8 pixel scroll
No speccy conversions, because those works in different way.
