Pitpan was wondering about this in another thread, but I think a separate topic is better. If you are one of the lucky few who owns an MSX turboR computer... which software should you really check out?
IMHO
- Mod Editor/Player
- Raytrace turboR demo
- Swiss demo
- Illusion city
I'd like to have your opinion on these products and maybe you have some nice suggestions as well!

I'm the happy owner of a turboR (GT) for several years already (I have no clue exactly how long, but pretty long) and I have to admit.... I never played Illusion City!! Actually I never played ANY turboR software on it!! ARGH!! please shoot me ^^;
Nah, it's just that I never found somebody with a copy.. And now that there are diskimages available, I just don't play games that much anymore. Doing more development stuff at the mo'... But I'm happy with any suggestions you guys have |

It's time to admit something as well. /me also have never played Illusion City yet Why not? Because I think the game is too beautiful to play in Japanese language. And all those menus indeed scared me away a bit....
For a long time, there have been rumours for this English version of Illusion City. Back in the 90s I decided to wait for that english version.....Now it's 2003 and erhm.....hehehe......Well, the gamebox looks nice etc.....Hopefully it will happen.....one day....
Hey, why not?! I didn't expect an english version of Snatcher anymore and here it is!!
So come one!!! Bring us this Illusion City English version!!! |

And apart from the software Snout mentions......argh.....There isn't much more to check out....
Fray turboR? Well, maybe.
Seed of Dragon? No, it SUCKS
Snooky 2021? Naaaa
Paradream? Yes, that's a nice shoot'em up for turboR!
There have been some japanese utils for turboR that are also worth checking out. I believe SAWP (midi player) is turboR only, right? And there is this 'japanese music formats' player, i.e. for MGS-files which is also turboR only....Forgot its name now...
You should also check out the turboR Basic to play with the PCM samplepart a bit
There is more, but not much, no......Actually kinda sad. Considering the computer did fairly well in Japan, saleswise...... |

It's not specific Turbo R software, you can see screen 12 pictures on a MSX 2+ |

Come to think of it, there's turboR essential hardware as well. Without a (compactflash) IDE interface you miss out on a lot of fun.

Indeed. I am using this Compactflash for quite some time now and it really boosts the MSX feeling....It's so easy now transferring data with my PC and stuff...And my whole MSX config is quiet....No fans, no spinning CDROM drives etc. etc. Great!!

Hello there!
It seems like nobody remembers the great Moon Light Saga... that was a coooooool RPG for TurboR.
Illusion City is being translated by fudebas (hey, it will be cool for sure! Was not Adriano the man involved there?). First portuguese, then making a not-so-rich language as English version will be easier. 8)
What I need? Latok's soft of course!!! |

I have the original version of Moonlight Saga and despite of a small bug it kicks major ass. There were several attempts to translate this game to english, they all failed (including my 'attempt') That's quite a shame, as most (if not all) scripts are already translated to English and with a little trouble, the source codes can be made available. (I think).

Snout: show it to me some time. Never seen this RPG in action. Only screenshots, which looked nice.

I'm quite curious as well to see the game running. Screen shots aren't that much fun in such cases.

There's also a program for Turbo R to put diskimages on HDD and play them. It's called HDDemu. A strange fact is that the program can't execute Turbo R games like Ranma 1/2 and Illusion City...

There is another program for turboR enabling disk images to be played from HD. It's called FDE.
