hello there.

I was wondering what the best video/audio codec is when using bluemsx' videocapture.
Which one the best when using screen 4/5/8 ???

thanks for your help.

I used wmv9, then postprocessed them with windows movie maker to make the size (quite) a bit smaller. That works well... but there may be better methods.

When you say "best", do you mean quality-wise or filesize-wise? Since most video codecs were made with real-world images in mind, pretty much any codec will make MSX images look like crap, specially with low bit rates.

Anyway, maybe it would be nice to use something intermediary (with higher quality), and process the final result later, in a program with more options and all.

For some reason, I want to say that codecs such as "Microsoft Video 1" or "Cinepak" will give good results with MSX-like images, but I can't be sure since I haven't tried.

Maybe if there are a lot of flat-colored areas in the images (not rare with MSX1 games) even RLE would work well, and the quality would be great 'cause that's lossless.

this is a capture from the video I took, after the size reduction using windows movie maker (the video is 1 minute, @10MB, the original capture was huge, forgot the exact size.)
... it didn't lose a lot of its quality (it did when I later uploaded it to youtube, but that's a different story).

thats cool'

so simply videocapturing with bluemsx
and then size reduction with moviemaker ??

that sounds easy !!
cool

Cool image, although that looks a lot larger than it needs to be! Possible to capture a smaller window, perhaps (it's been a while since I looked at the record feature)?

Anyway, I hope to capture the real thing in action with my new cheap-o video card sometime soon. Video capture from a real machine will very quickly overwhelm your hard drive; I took up 6.3 GB capturing Akumajo Dracula for roughly 9 minutes!

From the blueMSX manual :

" By default, the video rendering will use 60 frames per second and a 640x480 resolution. You can eventually change the corresponding parameters in the blueMSX.ini file :

video.captureFps=60
video.captureSize=1

The first one can be set to anything, but the two values coherent with the VDP frequency of the emulated machine are 50 and 60.
60 is better to use whenever possible because it's what the frame mixing routines are optimized for.

The second can be set to 0 and 1. 0 means 320x240 resolution; 1 means 640x480 resolution."

Happens when an url without tags is immediately followed by a quote. Tagging the url or putting a space between it and the quote tag should solve it for now...
