Even if there are MSX's out there that don't do the mirror, it would probably be only a few obscure models. The bigger problem is sprites though. The TMS chips foobar the sprites when mirroring is on. Although I am not entirely sure if that happens if you just mirror the patterns and not the colours. Actual TMS testing is mandatory here!

In the demo I made I think I mirror both color and patterns but there is of course no need to mirror the colors since they aren't updated in the game. I should fix that right away and post a new demo. I can make a demo where the main character sprites can be moved in y direction.

Um, dudes, 728 is pure MSX1, I suppose you mean the 738, which has a V9938 with 16k VRAM

I wish I had a Space Manbow cart to try it on my 738

Oh, and you can ignore the amount of MSX2 machines with only 64kB VRAM.

I made a new build that doesn't mirror the colors. So all registers are pure sc2 except R4 which is 0.
You can also move the character up and down now for testing the possible sprite issue Edwin talked about.

I have tested the gngdemo4 on a Sony HB-75P at the December 9 2006 MVM clubmeeting using the MegaFlashROM SCC and it works! Just like in an emulator, walking left will result in graphical garbage (this is restored when walking right again).

This is all very promising and I am looking forward to playing the finished result!

(I will be trying gngdemo5 on real hardware as soon as possible and post the result here)

This is expected because you go outside the game map. If there are corruption when you go right its a real issue.

I haven't done that much. I'm trying to set up a good development environment. Kindof interested in what nerlaska is using. Currently I'm looking at hitech c. Looks pretty good so far. I want to implement the game logic and enemy ai in c and the blitters and music in asm to make it easier to manage and still don't get too much speed penalty from using c.

dvik: i've done some experiment about sprite mx. You should have received my email today morning. if not, i finally realized that doing odd/even plane swapping does not achieve better visual effect when doing flickering. It's almost identical..

I can give you my last mx routine adapted for sc2; Maybe if you have time you could integrate on a new demo when it's available.

I use hitech C v7.80. ATM and IMHO it is the best cross compiler for z80.

We are using hitech C for generating 48K roms for this project:

Should you need some hints to generate roms let me know
