I'd really like to code for the MSX but I don't know of any good general Z80 tutorials. Most of the best things I've seen are written for developers on the Z80-based TI calculators (83,83+,84,85,86) Would it be a good idea to learn on a platform like that and then move to MSX (and also CPC, the only other GOOD z80 computer) or is there good stuff out there in English that I'm just missing.

lol. It's for TI calculators primarily... That seems to be where most Z80 development is happening these days... |

Hmm... I can't really apply it to anything... Does anybody know of anything more targeted at home computers? Scanings of classic book from the 80s perhaps?

This site has many books and is more targeted to Z80 computers like the TRS-80.
On my site I have some dutch books scanned targeted at the MSX. Ofcourse with the english standard Z80 books by Leventhal and Zaks (see the Technical Information section). I can recommend "MSX-2 boek voor gevorderden, achtergrond informatie voor programmeurs" |

I hadn't ever seen that part of your site... Thanks. I don't read dutch, but the links to the stuff on the TRS-80 site was useful. I got some of the "standard" texts...

Again, that tutorial is aimed at the TI-86... If, as I suspect I'll have to, I learn Z80 by calculator programming, I'll be using some of the excellent TI-83+ tutorials as those seem to be the best written AND the 83+ is the most popular calculator...

I expetially recommend "Z-80 Assembly Language Programming" by Lance A. Leventhal. This book can be found on that TRS-80 page ( www.trs-80.com/trs80-bk.htm) |

Indeed!, it's one of the best Z80 books around!.

Agreed; but don't be fooled by the fact that a Z80 can be on a calculator, a spectrum or an MSX. A Z80 will be always a Z80, in this tutorial (very basic and easy to start with) you only need to jump over the first paragraph where some specific TI's headers are mentioned, from there you have pure Z80 lessons |
