Hi, i need so help. Im a total newbie to this whole emulation thing, especially for mobiles,so i apologise for this.

What i want to know is:

Ive got a Nokia 6630, and want to know what fmsx program i need to download, and where to get games to upload on the emulator. Id preferably want to know how i upload/run the emulator, ive downloaded a FMSX emulator before, but it failed to run, or even show up, on my phone and i lost all hope. Id tried looking in the downloads area of this site, but it quite literally scared me.

Sorry for "The Idiots Guide to Emulation" question. All replies much appreciated.

Try this. Although I must say, those a, b, c and d versions start to scare me as well. It's freaky! There is also a huge forum thread about this emulator.....Heeeeeeeeere

For 6630 I suggest you download and install version 1.16b of my emulator (Latok already gave the link). After installing, the emulator should appear under "Games" folder on your phone. Before you can play any games with it, you need to copy the MSX system ROMs and the games you want to play to the phone. Here's how to do it (you can also do this over Bluetooth if you don't have the USB cable for your phone):

1. Make sure you have Nokia PC Suite software installed on your PC. If you don't have it yet, download it from Nokia website.
2. Connect your phone to a PC with Nokia's USB cable. You should see a bubble from the PC Suite on Windows desktop saying your phone is connected.
3. On the PC, open "My Computer" and from there, navigate to "Nokia Phone Browser", open it and then double click your phone.
4. Now you should have at least "Phone memory (C" as an option. If you have a memory card on your phone, you should also see "Memory Card: (E". You can choose either one, just remember to set the corresponding setting in the emulator.
5a. If you choose phone memory, open it, and from there go to "Nokia" and "Games".
5b. If you choose memory card, open it, and from there go to "Games".
6. If you don't see a folder called "fmsx", create it. Open the "fmsx" folder.
7. This is the folder where you need to copy all your game files (i.e. .ROM/DSK/CAS files). But first create yet another folder here called "systemrom" and open it.
8. This is the folder where you need to copy the MSX system ROM files (see my web page for instructions on what files you need and how to name them).
9. When the system ROM files are in place and you have copied some game files to the phone as well, launch the emulator and start playing

If you need further instructions with some of the steps above just ask.

Thanks all fir the help, really appreciate it

Can anybody tell me where i get the games for the emulator?

P.S. When i install the msx emulator, the file doesnt go to the games folder. Its not a probelm really, as i can still open it up using FExplorer and simply going into program files, and i can run it all ok. I was just wondering wether would this affect where i put my roms/other files.

Eradicated: you can get a bunch of freeware MSX games at the MSXDEV Team website, at Kralizec website and Karoshi Corporation's. You can also check MRC Downloads database, or just try Google

Umm... so which emulator did you install? Marat's emulator seems to use a different location for the game files, at least according to his web site. I haven't used it myself so I don't know much more about it than what's said on the web site.

If you installed my emulator (fMSX/S60 v1.16b), the location of the emulator itself does not affect the location where you need to put the game files. If you don't see the icon of the emulator anywhere something is not working properly I presume. It really should go under "Games" folder (just retried this on a 6630 and it does indeed appear there few seconds after the installation is finished) but in some phone models for some odd reason it may appear under some other folder as well -- anyway if you find the icon somewhere you can simply move it to any folder you like.
