@jltursan: could they design a arcade like gfx sprites with msx1 sprites? i think no. So the reason for the new set of sprites.
@huey: non new project, only a matter of curiosity. My opinion is (green beret): this is the max we can get on msx1 .
I was only wondering if anyone could do better.

Before anything else... *** the image below is just a test ***
The background could be much more detailed, and if the enemies somehow could be made as shapes (not sprites), the player could be just like in the picture...
But I agree this game screams MSX2
(as Jailbreak screams MSX2+ with it's sidescrolling... thanks God noone ported the Spectrum version, which is soooooo bad it's almost disgusting) |

Yup, screen 2. Dont know which screen the game uses, but as I said, this was a quick hack job just to see what it could be...
For me the game is an Ok job, but nothing near Konami-quality... So, yes, I think with talented gfx artists, the game could at least look a little better...

IMHO, there is hardly any annoying flickering or transparency of sprites in MoG. This game just rocks in all senses.

Another quick test, the initial screen:
Needs a lot of work on the upper bridge part, but the lower part is a lot better than the original.... |

Green Beret for MSX1... it could have been much better...
Something like Teenage Mutant Hero Turtles (tape for MSX only sold in Spain). Not a bad game at all (although being a ZX Spectrum clone). The NES version is the same game but much better:
TMNT for NES (YouTube)
I wonder why Konami Japan did not launch these two games for MSX, especially TMNT. |

@Ivan, isn't the MSX-version of TMNT just a stripped-down, slowish version of the NES game?
Which two Konami games do you mean?
By the way, through the wonder called MAME I recently played a Konami arcade game called "Mr. Goemon".
The MSX version is unsimilar but better.
Talking about MSX-versions which *could* have been a lot better (looking at those Green Beret shots... Wow, if the original MSX game only could have looked like that and also played more like the arcade version... Where were you guys back then? Heheh. )
But, speaking of it, what about R-Type?
Don't wanna be dissin' the old "1" but in my IMHO this game really deserved an MSX-2 port.
Good thing it supported Fm-Pac though... |

Yes, TMNT is the same game for the NES, PC, Amiga, Atari ST, Amstrad CPC, C64, ZX Spectrum and MSX.
Hopefully the ZX Spectrum version -form which the MSX version was ported- was quite good because it wasn't monochrome -as it was usual in ZX Spectrum games- and the colour palette was used efficiently. The NES version came later and it is probably the best (I haven't seen the 16bit versions but I doubt that they can be better than TMNT for the NES).
I was referring to TMNT and Green Beret, specially to TMNT. Konami Japan should have released TMNT on cartridge for MSX2. But when the ZX port appeared in Spain (December 1990-January 1991) Konami had already left the MSX business.
And about R-Type it is an entertaining game but far away from the Nemesis series in all aspects. |

Well... I've checked TMNT for the NES and the intro screen says 1989. I have also taken a look at an old Spanish magazine and the NES version was already on sale when the versions for 8bit/16bit computers appeared. So the home computer versions are based on the NES game. |
