YEs yes....
Someone have tryed to play a 256x256 game with upscale on a 1920x1080 32 inch monitor????????
Every pixel is like a stoneblock....
I play on my TurboR GT the old Xak version and is really better on a 17 inch CRT monitor...
I bought woomb xak without read compatibility and stupidly thinking that a MSX game is for MSX and not for a 3000 euros PC where i can play High Definition Games online!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Regards to all MSX fans....
Woomb ar not msx fans but they are man that got money from msx fans like some guy that promise AMIGA revival in the last 14 years....
Msx is dead and this is real but if i buy a msx games i want to play on msx ...If i buy Amiga game i want it run on Amiga not on linux ......

yeah, HD and all that jazz sucks, because older media isn't quite suited for it. It's why I still have a regular 4:3 TV. Still, it's nice that the fullscreen option is there.
Anyhow, the service is targeted at people who are interested in retrogaming. That's beyond just people who have an MSX. The fact its distributed as it is has everything to do with the most accesible method/platform.
Also, I can't prove anything, but I think the people involved in Woomb are actually really fond of the MSX - the details and care put in the translations give me that idea, at least.

(just a suggestion)

I guess reading is realy difficult in this day and age
and of course msx is not dead, else they wouldn't have put
out the OCM.

The description of XAK on woomb.net says:
"The version we offer you is the MSX2 release. Xak was released for other systems (e.g. SNES, X68000, PC-8801) as well."

The MSX2 release is a program that runs on MSX2.
What they are really offering is a translation of the MSX2 release, embedded in an emulator that runs under MS Windows.

I guess writing accurately is really difficult in this day and age.

I think we had a quite long discussion earlier whether its ok to call a game an MSX release if it only runs in an emulator. There were many good arguments for and against and I don't think there was any conclusion and it all depends on the preferences one has.

Technically, the game can run on MSX2, if the DRM stuff wouldn't be put around it...

Yes indeed, and as a regular reader of MRC forum for years just like anyone here I have perfectly understood Woomb games were running on MSX emulators on PC for long. I also remember many users on this forum reacted uppon it since they actually have real MSX machines, or will get an OCM and hoped to run these games on it etc.

MRC users are familiar with the Woomb concept.

However, MRC is not a compulsory place for occasional MSXers, not sure Woomb customers were on MRC at the right time to follow the discussions about games running on PC instead of MSX.

I understand mistakes can be done anyway since, as expressed above by arnold_m, once you've fully read the description of the game , all you know is that you're talking about an MSX game, developped on MSX obviously for MSX .

The words 'emulator' , 'PC' or 'MRC' ( ...) do not even appear in the whole page. An invitation to read the 'FAQ' to know how to run the game' in the page, and a message stating clearly 'this game run on PC not on real MSX' or something may avoid misunderstanding.

YES, if you read the FAQ on Woomb and think a little bit about it, you understand you need 'Windows' to run the game, this and the hardware requirements lead you to understand this will run on PC and not on real MSX. It is not a question of 'reading', it's rather a question of 'why should I read that (FAQ) since I have already read this (MSX games description <=> game for MSX) and I think I have understood'...
While reading the game description, you can see the big "BUY NOW" right in the middle of the page - in large red fonts - much cleared that the small 'FAQ' word, at the top of the page, in small white-on-blue fonts, in which you will find at the 6th line: "what are the systems requirements..."
But the communication thing can certainly be improved even more by Woomb.

Anyway, don't get me wrong:
- I tried to understand why some customers had a bad surprise: I think I did understand.
- I am impressed by the Woomb concept and the great work of people behind this. Audacious/Great programming skills/Interesting MSX (business) revival! ;p
- I have not yet bought anything from Woomb, and I think I won't (yes, I have a real MSX2 and I am intending to buy on OCMSX, I keep my PC for development or power demanding stuff)
- having the possibility to legally obtain official releases of so old games, translated for the first time, is really nice whatever the computer running

I think it would be good to maybe put the MSXPLAYer logo on there instead of the MSX logo. I don't mind that the games are only playable in an emulator, but to avoid confusion I think its good to state that its not a game for 'real' MSXes. (I see a new controversial debate on whether an emulator is real or not )
