Hmmm. Would this also work for an external drive like the VY0010?
I have a faulty VY0010 and a working (1,44) PC drive.

Damn, I should have taken french in school ! ;-) So, some clarification is needed:
It seems I can use a standard pc floppy... Do I also have to replace floppy OS ROM for this ?
Can I use up to 1.44 MB with this modification - would be great !
But I would prefer to use the external version, so I don't have to ruin my MSX.
In general: Are there any disadvantages if I only have a working "2nd" drive. I'm thinking of boot-disks (if there are any on MSX...). |

Nope.

Nope. The standard MSX Disk ROM cannot handle 1.44MB HD formatted floppies. |

yes you can use a PC 1.44 floppy but with 720k floppy format only (put a tape on hole)
if you don't replace rom you can only format floppy in 360k with basic command !!
if you connect the floppy on external you don't boot with because is only adress drive B: on connector
