Hello!I have a nms8280 and a vg8235 from philips.Those msx models have an internal 128kbyte memory mapper and 128kbyte vram.I would like to upgrade them with an external memory mapper of 1mbyte or more.Does anyone have one for sale?I am not interested for megaram cartridges as i have read from forums that these memory mappers are only able to run games and rom files of games.

Do you know where i could buy one?

I was using it in the same msx that you have, a nms8280 without problems.

Now I have a turbo-r and I do not need it more.

I've also a Padial 4Mb external mapper and my only complaint goes to their shape. It's a very old model and it's even 2cm bigger than a sunrise case. Now, if I'm not wrong, they fit Konami cases.
The usual drawback is that some software (a lot of software in fact) doesn't recognize the external memory, ExecROM for example doesn't makes use of this kind of memory; but hey, SymbOS works flawlessly with the expansion!
Maybe 1Mb could be enough; but the 4Mb expansion seems a good purchase anyway...

The padial 4 mb mapper fits into konami cases, the later model cases that is. like pennant race one or solid snake (if you dare)

Sadly, the old one is one of the biggest pieces of hardware I've ever seen for MSX...

One question is there a program to load roms and locate the external memory mapper?I know execrom does not work unless you have megaram ?Do you know if loadrom works?

As I'm a bit lazy, I haven't tested other loaders. Usually I switch to a machine with more internal RAM and forget about the external mapper; but I think that it must exists at least one with such feature...

Isn't there a basic loader that tests for such external mappers?I remember metal gear 1 the disk version for 256 kbytes memory mapper (the one that doesn't crash in the elevators but works ok),when it starts it does a check and says or not wether you have a memory mapper.Also the disk version of metal gear 2 the translated has one test i think in the start.Would not it be possible a program to be written that would take advantage of them?Should we contact the authors of these utilities and maybe request something?
