I am starting a new project and it is called the Castlevania Collection.
I am going to put all the games on one system.
So first off the of course the first games in the series is none other than
Vampire Killer,

I need some info,
How to make a CD-R emulate the game in my PS2 and play the game near as perfect as possible.

Let me know as much as you can about this.
I need as much info as possible.

I have the my whole company on this one!

Thanks.

To run PMSX you will need:

* A PC with network card + Xlink beta 1 for win32 (or ps2client 2.0.0 for unix/osx/cygwin)
* A PS2 that can run unsigned code (aka 'homebrew') + ethernet adapter + PS2Link v1.46
* network cable
* legal backups of your MSX games (ROM or DSK)
* Some time and patience

Just read the relevant documents enclosed in the 7not6 package and check ye ole PS2dev sites and you will be 'playing' Vampire Killer on your PS2 in no time!

Sorry, but that's not possible unless someone makes a decent MSX emulator for PS2

Has anyone tried to install those emus on the PS2 HD?, does they work?. Usually the PS2 emus only support the CD drive...

@jltursan:

(taken from the 7not6 ps2readme files

CPC - host:
GB - host: / cdrom: /mc0:
MSX - host: (^previous_post_addition^ you also need to place MSX system ROMs in the same directory)
NES - host: / cdrom: /mc0:
PCE - host: / cdrom: /mc0:
PSMS - host: /cdrom: /mc0:
ST - host:

So, in short: all except CPC, MSX and ST emulators in this package support loading from host:, cdrom: and mc0:. You could make CD images (as if you wanted to burn a 'real' PS2 CD/DVD) and send them to your PS2HDD. However, since all emus in this package are (according to the author)

very incomplete & buggy

, you will most likely abandon using them very soon

Thanks for pointing the "host:" thingie!. Until now I have tried some emus without success; but this package deserves a try...

Well, the openMSX CD could probably function as such (If you can boot a PS2 from CD, that is... and I don't know if there even exist Knoppix variants for the PS2 hardware.)

@manuel:
Porting openMSX to PS2linux seems like a pointless thing to do IMHO, since not many people have PS2Linux. You could still buy it in Europe though, according to http://www.linuxplay.com/, but wouldn't it be better to get an MSX emulator running on PS2 directly instead of via an obscure and hard-to-get
application?

See my last post: if it could be on a bootable cd, it would be quite interesting, I think But I have no idea if that's possible, see the questions I asked.

Well, booting a PS2 from CD/DVD needs at least:

* the PS2 having a modchip
* the CD/DVD being built like a 'real' PS2 CD/DVD

If you are suggesting booting KNOPPIX directly from CD/DVD on PS2 - tough, I'm all for it - this would mean that any PS2 that can boot CD/DVD's (either by modchip or softmod+PS2HDD) will be able to run it.

However, a few things need to be taking into account:

* who will do it (getting ps2linux to run like knoppix and porting openMSX to PS2linux)
* it cannot be released a 'ready-to-run' package (MSX system ROMs, dumps from games and the tools to build the PS2 CD/DVD are not exactly in a white or grey area, unless I missed something and a cd/dvd building tool that's utterly 'SONY will sue you to death and eat your heart'-free)

Also, I do not know how much SONY cares about people taking PS2linux and doing their own thing with it - especially if that own thing exists of 'make own PS2 bootable disc and run emulater from it'

Basically, it comes down to who has the will and the time to make it happen and possible legal issues.

Oh and how many MSX emulator fans are willing to build a new disc every time they managed to successfully 'dump' a game they 'own/got from ebay'?

(btw: if this post is somehow making you feel angry/bad/depressed about things: sorry - but it seems like a struggle to complete a project like this, makes more sense to make a MSX emulator that can be run from anything you can plug into a PS2 (memory card, usb stick, cd/dvd, harddisk, etc. The fact that did not happen yet and PMSX is (AFAIK) the only MSX emulator for PS2 tells me that nobody cares about it enough anyway )

Thanks for the info... I just wanted to know if it's possible.
