I have read many things on this forum about the MSX community. Quite a lot of them are fairly negative. People only give negative feedback - if any - and people from different cultures hardly interact with each other.
I think things really aren't that bad. The MSX Resource Center is trying to be(come) a platform for everyone in the MSX community, and looking at what we accomplished already we can only be positive. We, too, mosty get negative feedback and almost no compliments, but I think that is human nature. People see MSX, it's hardware, software and it's websites as their property and want the best for it. If something happens they don't like, they protect it. Our website statistics and forum activity are more than enough positive feedback already.
We should keep in mind, however that groups like Bandwagon quit MSX because they felt they were not appreciated by the community. It's ok to let people know they did a good job.
About the interaction between several cultures - I think we're doing better than average. Of course there are many people in Japan who have absolutely no clue about what's going on in Europe and vice versa. Same goes for Brazil. But still, the possibilities to interact with MSX users all over the world are there and a growing ammount of people are starting to use them. The MSX Resource Center is working on new features on the website to improve communications between MSX users - especially for developers. (Remember those questions about your skills in the 'My account' menu? )
I started this thread because I am convinced that if you repeat something many times, people will believe it and act like it. If you go to an MSX fair and just say 'ohw god it isn't what it used to be' less people will attend fairs in the end. If you say the MSX community doesn't interact at all, some people will give up interacting. It's about time we give a positive twitch to the MSX community again! |

I couldn't agree more
And after all, isn't it quality, not quantity, that counts?
Just come visit a fair or meeting ! not only to look for software/hardware, but also to talk to your fellow msx friends. Have a chat and get to know what is going on in MSX land..
MSX is not just a computer, not just chips, drives and hardware, MSX is a lifestyle |

The MSX Community rocks. Like many other communities, one will always have a few people spoiling things for others by doing negative things for it or simply reacting negatively about things other people encouraged. A good example might be the averse reaction to the MSX Revival regarding the MSX logo and stuff.
As long as the bigger part of the community think and do good things for the MSX and its community, we can all laugh at the few people trying to be negative about it in any way.
MSX Resource Center is already a good platform to do good things for the MSX Community for. And we're still branching out ideas and features for the site.

I think we have. Still busy with a mission statement, but I think that will also help people deciding if they want to support msx.org with a little money, or some of their free time.

Well msx.org is positive, very positive.
But by signing the anti-anti whatever-stop-that-boring-anti-anti manifest that is featured on the frontpage of msx.org you do not make a very positive impression. I dont know what is happening in #msxdev but if this is the result, its not positive! Its now time to talk positive and with understanding and not anti-anti-anti-anti.

Hmmmmm, but in bringing the news, we, mwx.org, don't want to be positive or negative. We try to be neutral. And bring you the news as it happens. People are smart enough to extract own opinions from it.

I really appreciate the news information on this site : they try indeed to be neutral, giving ALL news that are related to MSX.
It's not the case of another great MSX site, aamsx.org, that doesn't accept news about the emulators (with exception for the MSX-PLAYer, a very limited emulator !) or about the "Brazilianse" manifest. This kind of limitation of the information has a name : censorship, or, if you prefer, manipulation
By comparison, MRC gives indeed the opportunity to each MSX fan to make himself his opinion about for example, the positive and negative sides of the MSX Revival.
Let's hope that the positive part will be more important than the negative part ! |

What happened was, one of our spanish visitors mentioned there being harsh discussions about the Anti-MSX Revival Manifest on the Spanish MSX mailinglist, and Grauw felt it would be appropriate and urgent to write a counter-manifest.
I would like to stress I do not agree with the form in which it is written and that it's a very spontaneous action, which happened only a few hours ago. This certainly is not a publication of #MSXDev nor is it supported by every member.
Personally I do have criticism about the manifest, which you can read in other threads in this forum. Since then, the manifest seems to have gone through some revisions and some of the critique is now invalid. However, any criticism should not be written in such a way... |

I'm not really surprised by the harsch discussions on the Spanish mailing list about the Anti-MSX Revival Manifest, it's the logical result of the censorship on aamsx.org. : when people feel or think that they are manipulated, they become very nervous ...
Another thing : I can confirm that the text of this manifest has been revisited to get a better English version and to take in consideration some critics (especially the fact that this manifest is approved only by a part of the MSX community and is not representative of the entire MSX community). This work has been done by msxgamesbox, but the text is not necessary what he thinks himself about the MSX Revival.

A different point of view on new developments (revival, recycling MegaROMs, commercialisation, internationalization etc.) doesn't necessarily mean people of the MSX Community don't get along at all. It just means there is place for a good discussion.
