Commando, Bionic Commando, Roadblasters, Space Harrier, Space Harrier II, E-Swat, Out Run (yes, Outrun on Speccy looks very close to the MSX1 version, but it's far better in every aspect), Turbo Out Run, Buggy Boy, Super Hang-On, Super Monaco GP, New Zealand History, Operation Thunderbolt, Ivan 'Ironman' Stewart's Super Off Road Racer, Cabal, Bonanza Bros, Dynamite Düx, Silkworm, Turbo Espirit, Sidearms, Forgotten Worlds or P-47 have also 48K version ... FOR EXAMPLE
Strider or Pang are only 128 KB.

Atleast Space Harrier II and Turbo Outrun are converted for MSX in the 1980s already in Spain....
So I guess they could be found somewhere from the internet? |

It is the way to implement a "SWITCH" clause in Z80 ASM. It is done the following way:

| Just wondering...
how difficult would be move a speccy game to screen 5 ?
pixel actions could be mapped to vdp commands... or not ?
|
It was already done on Abadia del Crimen, by Manuel Pazos... so
it is possible. But the difficult cannot be foretold... it will be a result
of game speed, screen output coding...
Some games are really confuse on that matter (Ghosts'n Goblins
is a vivid example).

I have NEVER seen or found a copy of these games for MSX. The only proof I have is that Space Harrier II has the "MSX version" in the advertisement. But remember that not only Spain, UK also was the market for Spectrum conversions: remember that I found Scramble Spirits in a UK shop and nobody knews about its existence. And last Grandslam conversions, like Scramble Spirits were done on early 90's.
I think it will easier to port Space Harrier or Turbo OutRun that waste more time trying to find the supossed conversions.
Yours,

| I'm a bit worried for this GnG port.
IMHO it could discourage other MSX developers to continue the work on the same game

Dvik's tests look by far more interesting than the ZX version...
Daniel ! do not give up on your project!

I guess this spectrum conversion doesn´t change anyone´s interests for making decent GnG for MSX!
Anyway, to me, this spectrumy game conversion of GnG runs fast already! Maybe I am used to Spe-->MSX conversions already! |

Actually, I was referring to 80s gaming magazines and their advertisements AND in certain issue of The Games Magazine there was some teenager from UK who told about his holiday trip to Spain and was amazed that there were all latest games sold for MSX too!! Like Chase H.Q., Turbo Outrun, etc.... I was amazed too in that time.... How I wished they were also sold in Finland...
Scramble Spirits was also sold in Finland in the 80s... or was that 1990? |

MäSäXi, I saw the cover of Turbo Out Run for MSX in a 'sale by mail' advertisement in the Spanish magazine Micromanía (that still exists btw). But the game never came out. I even sent a letter to Micromanía asking if it was really available for MSX (they didn't reply me). If a cover for MSX was printed, probably an MSX port from ZX Spectrum was planned (the ZX version can be loaded in a 48kB Sinclair Spectrum).

Ivan, thanks for the info!
Anyway, I´m afraiding, that even if they had released Turbo Outrun, it wouldn´t have helped me at all in the 1980s Finland, as Turbo Outrun probably would have stayed in Spain marketing area only... as Chase H.Q. was sold only in Spain... *sigh*
by the way, Happy Valentine´s Day for MSX´ers! <3 |

I have tested this conversion on my 1chipMSX and it works perfectly Actually, totally outstanding!
PS: About tape conversions on 1chipMSX, Karateka and Gilbert don't work on this machine. |

If Gilbert doesn't work on 1chip, probably it's something missing on the OCM... because I tested it on all emulators (in several machine configurations), and even on my turbo-R, and it ran fine on everything.
And although I did not made Karateka, I tested it too... both should work on real MSXs with no problems.
But hey, I could fix it if someone gives me an OCM

Well, other conversions work like a charm, specially, Time Scanner at 10 MHZ ^-^ . It doesn't run... it flies!!
I haven't tried G'n'G at 10 MHZ because at 3,57 MHZ works perfectly
PS: What's my "msx neighbor of the beast" status? |

spl, forgot to say, that Commando is already converted for MSX...
check out:

thought it has white monochrome enemy soldiers, it has graphic details which look MUCH BETTER than in Commodore 64´s Commando!! This is maybe THE BEST msx war game!!

IMHO the MSX commando version is a bit rough one. I really believe that the best war game on MSX is "Who dares wins II", ¡real fun!

I know, but I din't like the playability when I have tried it. I prefer the speccy version. Or I think this is because I have played a lot speccy and cpc version I have the same problem with Ikari Warriors.
PS: Is there any "disk version" to try this game again? |
