Anybody with results on unmodded 8250/55/80s? Those are usually very loud on the SCC and would require the lower values.

I did all my testing with the flash rom. Not sure how to boot it with a rom loader. Or if it will at all.

I've just received my Mega Flash ROM SCC. Results, same on MSX1 Canon V-20 and MSX2 Philips VG8235, are over +7: +8, maybe even +9. The MegaFlash SCC amplitude is lower than my official Konami SCC cartridges (King's Valley 2 MSX2, Nemesis 2). Earlier volume balance tests I've done with my Nemesis 2 cartridge would probably indicate a value of about +4.2.

Another thing, is the SCC pitch here supposed to be the same as the PSG pitch? Combining them causes a flanger effect on some of the notes. You probably know, but just to be sure I mention that SCC period is PSG period-1. Also, I get a black screen on my MSX1, with controls and sound working fine, no idea why. It's ok on my MSX2.

Is there some resistors or something that can be replaced in the MegaFlashRom SCC to make the balance closer to official SCC carts? It seems like a good thing if it can been balanced the same way as official carts.

Unfortunately my ESE SCC cart broke and I haven't had a chance to try to fix it. I guess it would be nice to test other SCC flash carts than the MegaFlashRom SCC to get a better picture. Otoh, if wolf_ and Edwin plans to release their game on a MegaFlashRomSCC based cart, then it doesn't matter how other SCC carts are balanced.

For the moment we won't release it physically, nor do we want others to release it. Unless:
- someone can add a genuine SCC-I to the cart (the chip doesn't have this issue)
- someone makes a cheap cpld SCC to add to the game ROM.

hap: as for the pitch, afaik they're meant to be the same, but even if there is a slight global pitch difference between psg and scc then I'd even prefer that!

Hi ppl,

We've made a .com file with the same functionality as the ROM. It requires Dos 1/2 and an SCC in any slot. This should make it a lot more easy to check the balance on your system as you don't need a Megaflashrom or oodles o' RAM anymore!

We actually hope to release MJTT during Easter, saving you from the annual boredom, we just like to get the scc balance done before that, so we really hope you can try this one. We're particulary interested in the unmodded 50/55/80 models. But any other model may likely to be relevant. So: test, and feel aroused by the great testtune!

as expected, +4 on my MSX2 Philips VG8235, Nemesis 2 SCC
(I sent you an email btw, dunno if you received it, but that doesn't really matter since your post above already kind of answered it)

+0 still on my 8250. The brick has been modded with more RAM and 7MHz, but AFAIK the sound circuitery was not touched.

Could very well be that the 8250/55/80 are at +0. It still means that the SCC volume is reduced three steps compared to openmsx on equal volume setting. If this is the most reduction that is needed, then I can remove quite a bit off the lower settings.

AuroraMSX: I think you still have a fair chance they did modify the sound part, as it has a bug on an unmodified machine.
