Hi guys,

i have just bought my new MSX2 (nms8250) and now is time to accomodate it.

I dont have too much space, and i dont have to invest more money by now in a new monitor
for the msx.

So i'm thinking in some kind of vga-box with easy switching between msx and pc views.

Do you have some experience with this? any recommendation? are you using some vga-box you
can recommend me to buy? which video out you use in the msx (av-out,composite,scart)? i suppose scart should be the perfect option but not sure.

As always, thanks a lot for your support!

Always use SCART with RGB out. Some (LCD) monitors have a SCART-in, and it should work fine on those. An MSX monitor is quite cheap though

hola Manuel!

Thanks for your advice. My CRT monitor has no scart-in, but as you say maybe is cheaper to buy a new LCD monitor with scart-in or even a msx monitor. How much is usually a colour msx monitor nowadays?

I think the best to do is buying a LCD monitor with Scart-RGB input. Because the other possibility , buy a VGA-BOX, most VGA box accept only composite video or super video, doesn't allow RGB input. Then, you only will be able to use composite output of you MSX computer, and image in VGA monitor will be a little poor.

A color MSX monitor may be just about 10 euros, depending on where you are trying to buy it. The Netherlands has them cheap, at least.

Hi again,

Will this cable work with the Scart out of the 8250? I'm trying to connect the msx-scart out to
a vgabox with only S-Video input. Scart -> S-Video conversion quality should be better than composite.

- Cable: Scart -> S-Video + 2xRCA (audio)

Is the S-Video signal already in the Scart pins? If it works would the quality better that composite video?

Thanks guys,
Aiken

You can also add a TV tuner card or a video capture card that can accept composite video input. They typically accept audio input as well.

With this kind of solution, your MSX screen output will be shown on your PC monitor in a window (or full-screen if you resize/zoom it), and your MSX audio will come through your PC speakers.
