Hi,
What things i can/cant do with one or the other?
I suppose to the regular user CF-IDE is easier and more comfortable to use, but i dont want to miss something interesting with the IDE+RS232. The price is the same, so it doesnt help me to choose.

with ATA-IDE you will need a kind of extternal power supply for ide and case.
There is not a lot to do with rs232, unless you have a specific idea.
-> Go for the CF-flash, you will not regret.
I got mine setup and ready to work in a pair of minutes

With CF-IDE you can't use CD-ROM or RS-232 but in otherhand it is much more confortable to use because you don't need external power supply or cable hell in your desktop.

No happy projects, but here's my 2 cents: unless you want to hook up a CD-ROM player to your MSX or you find use for that RS-232 thingy, CF would be the most comfortable way to go. So, don't wait any longer, just order the damned thing! |

It comes to this: With the Compact IDE then the cartridge is it, no extra hardware/cables etc. For transferring MSX software use the cardreader for PC with the card from the MSX.
Ik you ever want to connect different IDE hardware (Harddisks, CD-roms, ZIP's) then use the IDE
You must use external powersupply to that other hardware.
I myself have IDE with seperate Compactflash to IDE. The required power comes from my TurboR's second (extra) external floppydrive connector or, when using other IDE stuff, from an old PC powersupply.
By the way, I have the IDE+RS232, but I never (till now) have used the RS232

You can also try mailing Rob Hiep rhiep (_at_) msx.ch
Last year I've mailed him for a manual and within 8 hours I got a reply on that mail.
