Question for Europeans:
Do you guys have modern reliable TFT computer displays, either 4:3 or 16:10 that are capable of switching to 4:3 in hardware, and have full SCART input, including RGB and aspect ratio sensing?
And ideally it should also have universal power supply (50-60Hz, 100-240V) and be at least 19", but better 22-24".
If yes, please let me know how much something like that would cost.
Added: I have C= 1084, and it works beautifully, but it's 20 years old, and I think monitors normally should live 5-10 years, so this one is just cheating death somehow |

I use a Samsung 710MP 17" TFT monitor, no problem with SCART, however I get a better picture using the SVHS output from my TurboR.
I might try it one day on my 40" Sony Bravia TV set.

That is seriously strange. SCART RGB is supposed to be a lot better then S-Video. I use Dell FPW2405, it's great, has S-Video, but it only works in 16:10 mode, which is annoying...
May be your cable doesn't put proper voltage on RGB select pin? So SCART works in composite video mode? That would explain the quality issue...

I agree with both, I'm also using a 710MP and the SCART output is a bit blurry; so indeed, there must be something wrong in the cable, a Sony F700 one. Using the same monitor I usually get a much better quality when I plug other computers through SCART
Looking at the specs, at least 1V must be provided to SCART pin 16; so I'll need to check pin 5 on the TurboR...

In a CRT, RGB from scart goes "directly" to the tube, here the LCD have to digitize the rgb signal.

I am using a 19'' Samsung 940MW. That must be one of the only LCD tv/monitor with a SCART input that you can buy in the US. However I have the same picture quality issues as reported above when I use the scart connector... it's somewhat blury and it doesn't let me adjust any settings to solve the issue really. 80 columns mode is unusable. Oddly the picture quality seems better when I display that input using the PIP... so I guess it's linked to how the resolution is adapted in full screen. I wish there was a firmware update to fix this.

SCART supports both RGB and Composite video. Maybe your TV takes the Composite video signal from the scart and not the RGB signal

A french MSX user on msxcaffe site found that his modern TV don't understand +5V on pin 16 (sorry no handy link to his message right now). After he added a resistor to reduce it to 3V, he got good results. According to wikipedia entry pin 16 must have 1-3V to turn RGB mode on. Also, if TV is wide screen, it is a good idea to put 9.5-12V on pin 8 to get 4:3 aspect ratio.
Almost all widescreen PC monitors and notebook displays are 16:10, although LG and others started making movie friendly 16:9 models recently. |

Yes, the SM 2032MW is also the screen for me :-)
DVI for the MAC, SCART for the NMS8250, coax for the built-in TV tuner. What more does one need? Maybe the component input can be put to use when you have an old Sun SparcStation lying around :-D |

Seeing it is a 4:3 monitor, are they still sold new? If yet, I'd love to import one somehow |
