Hi!

Today I've just discovered that there is an MSX/MSX2 emulator written in Java that supports PSG/SCC/FM sound. Rendering quality is excellent, including different blitters and has no frameskipping in my test setups.

I only knew of another java MSX emulator, but it lacked of sound. This one, calle JEmu2 is multisystem, emulates several arcade games, ZX spectrum, Sega Master System and MSX/MSX2.

I'll include the link to the page where it is hosted: http://www.gagaplay.com/

Did anyone know of this one? I totally missed it!

And I forgot to mention that on several games the high-score table is on-line. Therefore, you play MSX games but you set a truly world-wide high-score.

Also interesting to see smooth-scroll versions of classical games.

Hahaha! So I was -almost- the only one that didn't know of the existence of this jewel.

I,ve been there And I was Stunned. it looked and played very nice, atleast for the msx/2 part. The sound of the sega and the spectrum were very crappy

Good to hear some people still like JEmu2

Just to let you know, I've recently had some success getting JEmu2 to run on a PS3 (without installing Linux on it). It works from a USB stick and runs on BDJ (Bluray Disk Java). I've got some kinks to work out, but once I got something ready to publish I'll post here.

Cool! Now I must go figure out where/how to get BDJ!

I just tried to run the JEmu2 MSX applet, but couldnt get it to work...

Tried on 2 different machines, one on Win98 another on WinXP, both on IE and Firefox, neither worked... all I get is a black screen after the "click here to start" appears.

Is there anyway to run this applet locally - or on my own site?

If you have a PS3, you already have BDJ (it's part of the Bluray spec).

Well, that's not really surprising because that's why the MSX applets are not available on the website: they don't work.
I'm guessing you opened the html source of the page to see where they used to be?

I suggest to use the .jnlp link (the Java Web Start version) to run JEmu2 locally, or link to the .jnlp from your own site.
The .jnlp version works better than the applet, and it's a lot easier to set up.

Nope, I just googled for "JEmu2 MSX Applet" when looking for information on the emulator... second link points to http://www.gagaplay.com/jemu2/applet/msx/

I understand that, but I do prefer an applet... my idea was to let users play on their browsers my games (the free ones and possible the ones being sold), but thanks anyway!

Good luck with your project

It's quite tricky to set up the JEmu2 applet. When the MSX version of the applet works again, I might write some 'how-to' document.
